Description

Process for the deoxidation of metal melts using hydrogen It is known to use molten metals to prevent oxidation under a hydrogen atmosphere to melt, it is also common to treat the weld pool with hydrogen, if extensive deoxidation is to be achieved.

In this process, the hydrogen is usually made from a developer or the storage vessel is fed into the furnace @ from the outside. Besides that you need a cumbersome system to carry out this treatment, the the process increases considerably, the hydrogen used is known to be used little reactive because it is in molecular form. Compared to the previously carried out Method, the present invention contains the proposal, in the case of metal melts Do not create a hydrogen atmosphere by introducing the gas into the furnace, but to develop this over the weld pool itself. To this end it sets a mixture of a metal hydroxide, principally, is put into the furnace after loading C, alcium hydroxide and: a carbon-rich additive, e.g. B. charcoal. There the hydroxide only decomposes at higher temperatures with the development of water vapor, and this reacts with the carbon of the additive is by the aforementioned procedure the Vorauis' law for the formation of atomic; very effective Hydrogen given over the weld pool.

Die sich dabei abspielenden Umsetzungen können durch folgende Gleichungen dargestellt werden: ' Ca (O H)2 - CaO + H20 H20+C =2H + CO Me0+2H=Me +H20. . The conversions that take place can be represented by the following equations: ' Ca (OH) 2 - CaO + H20 H20 + C = 2H + CO Me0 + 2H = Me + H20. . (3) (Heavy metal (heavy metal) oxide) As a simple calculation shows, as much hydrogen can be developed from 0.7 kg of calcium hydroxide as is soluble in a ton of steel.

Calcium carbide can be used in place of elemental carbon. It is well known that it succeeds; To deoxidize metal melts very largely with calcium carbide. The use of this deoxidizer has the disadvantage that the melt is carburized at the same time. With steel inserts, this side effect is very unpleasant. With the addition of calcium hydroxide to a carbide slag, however, it is possible to achieve even more extensive deoxidation and - Still the unwanted carburization too ei den. Diss-ozition of metal hydroxides in and water vapor as well as the implementation C the latter with carbon at high tem- temperatures are basically known. However, the present invention brings for the first time the proposal to use this reaction in the implementation and deoxidation of metal melts in a very simple manner, which brings with it a great technical advance and economic benefit.
