Description
Drying method When drying in general, but especially when Drying vegetable matter such as grain, malt, vegetables, etc., it is important to reduce the temperature of the items to be dried as soon as possible after drying.
When carrying out the drying process under vacuum, it is with regard to Furthermore, to wish certain types of dry goods, the dry goods before they are left behind after drying is exposed to the action of the air, except for such a low one Temperature is cooled so that contact with oxygen is prevented as much as possible will. The cooling of the dry goods should therefore come about while the goods to be dried are still in the drying chamber. The invention relates to a drying process that meets these conditions and, moreover, the use of special, expensive ones Devices for cooling makes unnecessary and the occurrence of excessive voltages excludes in the building material of the dryer, which otherwise as a result of a non-uniform, rapid cooling could occur, such as B. when large amounts of cold water are driven through the heated dryer and thereby certain parts of the device cool and allow to contract quickly.
The procedure is carried out in a drying chamber, which is equipped with Heat exchange body is equipped, so that the heating means is not immediately on the dry goods can act. The invention is characterized in that after Termination of drying by interrupting the supply of heating medium to the heat exchange bodies the latter are placed under vacuum and a small amount of water in the same or is introduced into certain of these, so that a rapid evaporation of this water takes place and a cooling mainly due to the heat of evaporation of the water comes about.
The invention is essentially intended to apply to such dryers in which the drying process takes place under vacuum. Here can be the same Vacuum pumps can be used for both cooling and drying. The drying takes place, for example, with the aid of pressurized steam, which passes through heat exchange pipes is directed. -After drying, the supply of steam is interrupted, connects the heat exchange pipes with the Vacuum pump and splash in certain of the same small quantities of water. Because of the vacuum this water begins to boil violently and becomes that necessary for boiling Would be taken from the heat exchange tubes as well as from the dry material, which thereby is quickly and effectively cooled to the desired temperature.
In the drawing there is an attachment for carrying out the procedure according to of the invention shown.
Fig. I is a side view of the plant, partly in section.

Die Leitung 22 enthält ebenfalls ein Ventil 28.It denotes i a drying drum, which is arranged horizontally and rotatably rests on rollers 2. The drum has a larger and at one end at the other end a smaller steam chamber 3 or 4, which is covered by a steam jacket 5 are connected to each other. The drum also contains a but separately arranged drying chamber 6. By sieves 7, which extend through the extend through the smaller steam chamber 4, the drying chamber stands with an outside the steam chamber 4 provided vacuum chamber 8 in connection. A line 9 connects the vacuum chamber 8 with a condenser io, which in turn is connected by a line i i is connected to a vacuum pump i2 and an outlet pipe 13 for the condensed water has, which after a equipped with a water seal 14 outlet line leads. Pipes arranged in groups run through the drying chamber 6 15, which connect the steam chambers 3 and 4 to one another, and also a central one Tube 16, which at one end with the steam chamber 4 and at the other end, namely in the steam chamber 3, through a sliding coupling 17 with a steam supply pipe 18 in connection stands. The tube 18 extends through a trough provided in the steam chamber 3 1g, which is used to collect the condensation, as well as a surrounding the trough Seal 20. A pipe 21 branches off from the steam pipe 18 to a condenser io from, and from the trough ig an outlet pipe 22 goes to a condensate collector 23, through the line 24 with a vacuum pump, not shown, and by a Line 25 is connected to a condensate pump, also not shown. The conduits 18 and 21 contain valves 26 and 27, respectively, the former of which is arranged in front of the junction of the line 21. Line 22 also includes a valve 28.
In the steam chamber 3, a water supply line 29 is provided, from which a number of fine branch pipes 30 extend, which are inserted into the pipes 15, as can be seen from FIG. 3. A supply pipe 3 i for cooling water is connected to the distribution line 29. The tubes 15 taper somewhat towards their ends, as is shown in FIG. 3 for one tube end.
The dryer works as follows: The goods to be dried are fed to the drying chamber 6. Heating steam is fed through the pipe 1 8 to the central pipe 16 by opening the valve 26 and the valves; is kept closed. This steam is distributed in the steam chamber 4 after the individual tubes 15 and flows through the latter to the steam chamber 3, releasing heat to the dry material contained in the drying chamber 6. The resulting cooling of the steam causes the steam to condense in chambers 3 and q. instead of in the same way as in the pipes 1 5 and the jacket 5. The condensation water formed is collected in the trough 19 and discharged through the pipe 22 to the condensate collector 23. The water vapor generated during the drying process in the drying chamber is sucked off through the sieves 7 to the vacuum chamber 8 and further through the pipe 9 to the condenser, where it condenses and flows together with the cooling water used from the condenser through the outlet pipe 13 to the water seal 14 ; only to be diverted away. After drying has taken place, the supply of steam through the pipe 18 is interrupted by the valve 26 being closed. The valve 27 is now opened so that the pipe 16, the steam chamber 4, the pipes 15 and the steam chamber 3 are connected to the condenser 10 and its vacuum pump. Cooling water is supplied to the distribution line 29 through the pipe 31 and from there is injected through the fine pipes 30 into all or some of the pipes 15. This water partly flows through the pipes to the steam chamber 4 and from there into the jacket 5. Because of the tapering of the pipes 15 at the ends, a certain amount of water always remains in the pipes during the cooling period. As a result of the vacuum prevailing in the steam chambers, in the steam jacket and in the pipes 15, the supplied water is quickly made to evaporate and causes rapid cooling. During drying and cooling, the drum is kept in unidirectional or reciprocating rotation.
