In Schaltanlagen werden zur Fernsteuerung sog. Steuerschalter -verwendet, die eine Signallampe besitzen, welche bei Nichtübereinstimmung der Stellung des Steuerschalters mit dem zugehörigen Schalter aufleuchtet, wobei gleichzeitig ein Hupensignal zum Ertönen kommt. In größeren Schaltwarten, in denen sehr viele Schalter, Trafos u.dgl. überwacht werden, sind meist nicht alle Schalter in Betrieb. Es kann nun vorkommen, daß durch einen Stationskurzschluß sämtliche Schalter ausschalten. Die Folge ist, daß in den Steuerschaltern 'die Signallampen aufleuchten und 'das Hupensignal ertönt. Der Schaltwärter wird nun der Reihe nach die Steuerschalter in die »Aus«-Stellung bringen, bis schließlich sämtliche Lampen erloschen sind und 'die Hupe schweigt.
