Bei Temperaturmessungen mit Glasthermometern entsteht ein Meßfehler dadurch, daß der herausragende Faden nicht die bei der Eichung zugrunde gelegte, sondern eine andere Temperatur hat. Es ist bekannt, die Temperatur des herausragenden Fadens mit einem Hilfsthermometer zu messen und diese Temperatur für die Berechnung der Temperaturberichtigung zu benutzen. Wird bei technischen, betriebsmäßigen Messungen, z. B. bei der Messung an Heißdampfrohrleitungen, das Hilfsthermometer in üblicher Weise neben das Hauptthermometer gehalten, so führt die Messung zu Ungenauigkeiten, da die thermischen Bedingungen, unter denen der, herausragende Faden steht, anderb sind als diejenigen, welche die Temperatur des Hilfsthermometers beeinflussen. So wird dem Faden des Hauptthermometers z. B. Wärme durch Festkörperleitung von der Meßstelle zugeführt; bei dem frei neben das Hauptthermometer gehaltenen Hilfsthermometer ist dies nicht der Fall. Es mißt wesentlich die Temperatur der umgebenden Luft und steht je nach seiner Lage in einem von Fall zu Fall verschiedenen und im Einzelfall nicht einmal als konstant anzunehmenden Strahlungsaustausch z. B. mit den Rohrwandungen ,und den Einbauteilen des Hauptthermometers.
