Description
Filament for electric light bulbs, electron tubes, X-ray tubes and other electrical vacuum apparatus. Examined with the help of a Bragg X-ray spectrograph and X-ray tube with tungsten incandescent cathode any preparations, in this way one always receives on the spectral recordings in addition to those associated with the specimens X-ray lines too. the L series of tungsten. This phenomenon can be easily resolved explain: The tungsten of the filament vaporizes and partially opens up the anticathode to which the specimen to be examined is applied, and is there stimulated to radiation by the electron bombardment.
Now the observation was made that on spectral recordings of high percentage Rhenium preparations (element 75) the tungsten lines either only very weakly or could not be seen at all. This fact is to be interpreted in such a way that rhenium during the Electron bombardment is atomized from the focal point onto the tungsten filament and this reduces the evaporation of the tungsten. Incidentally, this process takes the electron emission of the filament from; for it was to achieve the same Electron current necessary to increase the heating current of the hot cathode from 5. o to 5.3 amps. The fact that rhenium was deposited on the filament could be determined by an X-ray spectroscopy Examination of the glow wire can be proven. Furthermore, the fact is noteworthy there, ß also on the inclusion of preparations without rhenium, those with the same incandescent spiral following the above made, the tungsten lines are still very faint was. From this it can be concluded that the rhenium present on the tungsten spiral evaporated again very slowly. From these experimental findings it follows that that rhenium precipitated on a filament made of difficult-to-melt metal the evaporation or atomization of the filament strongly - reduced and thus the Lifespan of the same increased.
