Man
Method of burning a mixture of coarse-grained and fine-grained
Fuels Grate furnaces have the property that a high rust load
Part of the fuel with the gases in the furnace and partly as unburned
Fly coke is carried into the fly ash trays and sometimes also outside. Man
has therefore tried with all means to carry away flying coke with grate firing
to prevent. Where this was not achievable due to the grain size, .man has before the
Firing, sometimes also at the coal inlet before igniting the fuel, one
Sifting of the fuel into coarse and fine made and the fine separated
from combustion, the grate is introduced into the combustion chamber. There are also firings
built in which the fuel is whirled up and almost by a feed grate
is only burned in suspension, the rust being of secondary importance
and mainly serves as a feeding device and slag removal. With others
Grate furnaces, on the other hand, have the combustion chambers dimensioned almost as large as in the case of pulverized coal furnaces,
has burned only a few percent of the fuel in suspension, however
one could not keep on the grate with the known means. So the rust was
overloaded, but the combustion chamber is not sufficiently used.
Man braucht daher
The invention aims to remedy this deficiency in that a
Part of the combustion is moved to the combustion chamber, but without the grate
To take importance as the main heat generator. For the best use of the available air volumes
and for the best adaptation to the combustion process, according to the invention, in a
grate provided with zone air control in those grate zones which have the most
Combustion air require the amount of air or by admixing known per se
of combustion gases the amount of gas above that for combustion on this grate section
required amount of air increased so much that the previous
Combustion zones fuel particles burned down to a sufficiently small grain size
be carried into the furnace and burned there in suspension. One therefore needs
no special sorting and feeding devices for the dust; one uses rather
the effect of the grate, part of the fuel by degassing and burning
to prepare for the grain size required for whirling up. Moreover, can, anyway
a large excess of air is used on the relevant grate zone, in the overall result
an increase in the excess air can be avoided because the particles blown up
subsequently burn in suspension in the excess air flow. The result of the procedure
In practice, a reduction in the size of the grate area while increasing it at the same time
the performance and simplification of fire control.
A furnace designed on this basis is shown as an exemplary embodiment
shown schematically in section.
Above a traveling grate i, which is equipped with air zones a, 3, 4 and 5

Expand the combustion chamber. The fuel is fed through the funnel 9 or through
a special feeding device. In the upper part the firebox narrows again
corresponding to the length of the boiler tubes io. Since the grate is approximately above zone 4 the
most air is required, only this zone is expediently operated with such a high pressure,
that there the tearing up of the finer fuel particles occurs.
beimischt. The amount of gas can also be increased by using the total
Combustion air or only the part under zone 4 hot or cooled flue gases
