Process for the preparation of derivatives of the triaryl methanesulfonic acids
The remarkable observation was made that complete alkylation,
Cycloalkylation or by aralkylation of the phenolic hydroxyl groups of oxytriarylmethanesulfonic acids
or from mixtures thereof, new valuable compounds are obtained, which in excellent
Way are suitable, wool and the like. Against. Damage from moth caterpillars and the like
To protect food pests permanently.

When the p-position to the etherified phenolic hydroxyl group is occupied, the condensation takes place mainly in the m-position to this, and in most cases more or less discolored mixtures of differently substituted products are formed. According to the present process, on the other hand, mainly individual pure triarylmethanesulfonic acids are formed in which the methine group is in the o-position to the ether group, provided the p-position is occupied; if the p-position is not occupied, products are mainly obtained in which the methine group is in the p-position to the ether group. Such products, in which all phenolic hydroxyl groups are etherified, have compared to those which still contain free phenolic hydroxyl groups. Compounds have the advantage of a considerably increased light and wash fastness of the goods treated with them. Example i 43 parts by weight of the MJnO sodium salt obtainable by the process of patent 530219 by condensation of 1 mole of benzaldehyde-o-sulfonic acid with 2 moles of 2,4-dichlorophenol are dissolved in a little more than 2 moles of sodium hydroxide solution and with a little more than 2 moles of dimethyl sulfate a few hours at. Stirred for about 25 to 50 ° until the starting material is no longer detectable. If necessary, sodium carbonate is added to ensure that the liquid always remains alkaline. The separated fine crystal paste is filtered off after cooling and washed with water. By dissolving it in hot water and adding sodium sulphate, the new substance is obtained in shiny silver leaves. Give its watery solutions. White precipitates that are difficult to dissolve with ferric chloride, moderately aluminum sulphate. The chlorine and methoxyl determinations show that both oxy groups of the starting material have been methylated. It is therefore the sodium salt of 3, 3 ', 5, 5'-tetrachloro-2, 2'-dknethoxytriph # enyltnethan-2 "-sulfonic acid. The 'methylation can also be among others.

If necessary, the liquid is always kept alkaline by adding small amounts of lye. After cooling, the crystalline deposited new substance is filtered off. It is soluble in water - and when sodium sulfate is added it separates out again in crystals. The body obtainable in this way is the sodium salt of 3, 3 ', 5, 5'-tetrachloro-4, 4'-dnmethoxytriphenylmethane-2 "-sulfonic acid. Example 3 258 parts by weight of the first example

A coarse crystalline deposit is filtered off while hot. It is insoluble in water and is probably the isobutyl ester of the diisobutyl ether of dioxysulfonic acid. The amount of this by-product changes depending on the experimental conditions. When using 3.3 MOI ISO butylbromide the Esteräther as the main reaction product is obtained. By boiling with alcoholic potassium hydroxide solution, the ester diether is saponified into a diether.
