Abstract

The engine is kept moving for a defined time before stopping, whilst the fuel supply is cut off, and only air is delivered to the cylinders so that the residual harmful products are passed through the catalytic converter whilst it is still at operating temperature. The combustion engine may be left to run so that the engine rotation speed (n) successively falls from the beginning of the cleaning or flushing period (t1) until the engine stop period (t2).
