Abstract

The method involves using and applicator with a nozzle (17) which is moved around the edge of the glass pane (33) to apply the strand of plastics so that the beginning and the end of the strand join together. A film (45) is applied over a length (l) of the glass pane and the thickness of the strand (35) by discharging from the nozzle over a line with a predetermined length (L), rising from the thickness of the film to a set thickness (D). At the end of the strand the surface (36) thickness tapers from this set thickness down to zero. The applicator comprises a nozzle, the mouth (24) of which has a virtually rectangular cross-section and is closable by a slide (26). A first drive is provided for operating the slide and a second drive moves the nozzle in one plane.
