Abstract

The applicator contains a vertically movable applicator nozzle (1) for applying a medium such as adhesive, sealant etc. to a workpiece such as a windscreen. The applicator nozzle (1) is vertically displaceably mounted so that it can follow concave or convex curvature of the workpiece. So that the applicator nozzle (1) is always supported by a predetermined constant pressure when passing through the application path on the workpiece, it is mounted on a constant-pressure pneumatic air suspension. For this purpose, the mounting of the applicator nozzle (1) is connected to a cylinder (5) which is vertically displaceable and encloses a stationary piston (6) which delimits an upper (7) and a lower (8) cylinder chamber. The upper cylinder chamber (7) is furnished with a valve device (11) which is connected to a compressed air source which, when the volume of the upper cylinder chamber (7) increases, correspondingly feeds compressed air into this. Furthermore, the valve device contains a venting valve (13) which, when the volume of the upper cylinder chamber (7) decreases, correspondingly allows compressed air to escape. The lower cylinder chamber (8) is always unpressurized.
