Abstract
For the forging of workpieces with a pronounced longitudinal axis, use is made of forging machines which are provided with four rams (2) arranged in an X shape in one plane, offset by 90 DEG relative to one another, acting radially on the workpiece guided longitudinally along the axis of the system and fitted with tools (5). The invention relates to a forging machine of this generic type, known from EP 0 228 030 B1, and, in particular, to the embodiment, known from Figs. 7 and 8 of the said document, of the actuating devices for the transverse adjustment of the tools in their working plane via shafts arranged to the side of the rams. Difficulties arise here in establishing the drive connections between the shafts and the final elements of the actuating devices since these are subjected to the radiant heat emanating from the workpiece and to the scale which arises. The aim of the invention is to adapt the drive connections between the shafts and the final elements of the actuating devices better to the operating conditions. To achieve the object set, the invention envisages that the gear mechanisms (54 to 58) of the actuating devices (54 to 63) be connected to the rams (2) and that the connection between the actuating devices (54 to 63) and their drives (63) be made via rotating joints (59, 60) which compensate the movement of the rams. In this arrangement, the rotating joints can be provided between the gear mechanisms of the actuating devices and the shafts, between the parts of split shafts or between the shafts and their drives, the rotary joints essentially permitting better protection against heat radiation and the incidence of scale. In addition can be arranged at a more protected location, i.e. a location less exposed to heat radiation and the incidence of scale. It is particularly advantageous if the drives (63) of the actuating devices (54 to 63) are secured on the machine frame (1) and if the rotating joints (59, 60) providing a connection with the gear mechanisms (54 to 58) are dimensioned to compensate the working stroke and the stroke-length adjustment of the rams (2). <IMAGE>
