Abstract

A fire detector contains at least one sensor element (16) which detects the heat emanating from a fire. The sensor element is constructed as a thermocouple (16) whose reference junction is thermally connected to a heat sink (18) which stores the heat and whose temperature corresponds to the mean temperature of the room. The temperature of the measuring point of the thermocouple is influenced both by absorption of radiant energy and by heating due to heat conduction. In the event of a fire, energy components of both types of heat transmission are detected by the thermocouple, so that the fire detector reacts to fires with a high sensitivity. In one embodiment of the invention, a test sensor (82, 84) which receives a test radiation (94) is arranged near the thermocouple (16). The test sensor (82, 84) generates a test signal with the aid of which the degree of pollution of an upstream protective glass (80) is detected. <IMAGE>
