Körpern in Lösung oder Dampfform, gegehenenfalls bei Gegenwart von Beschleträgern;
bewirkt-werden.Process for the production of self-supporting thin-walled structures, such as
Threads, tapes, films, discs, made of natural rubber. In the patent 568 9o6 is a
Process for the production of threads, tapes, skins, films; Disks and the like
rubber-like polymerization products of butadiene hydrocarbons specified,
that consists in treating them with sulphurizing agents in such quantities:
that on the one hand the products have lost their great elasticity and on the other hand
have not yet completely hardened to a hard rubber-like mass: It was
now found that one can obtain similar products of very great flexibility and strength
can be obtained if you have cantilevered thin-walled structures made of natural rubber, such as
Threads, tapes, films, discs, etc., with volatile inorganic sulfur compounds
Treated in such quantities that the products on the one hand their great extensibility
have lost and, on the other hand, have not yet become completely rubber-like
Mass are hardened. It is advisable to work at temperatures that are not too high.
The treatment can be for example with sulfur chloride, sulfur bromur, sulfur rhodanur,
Polysulphides, hydrogen sulphide and sulphurous acid or with other sulfur-releasing substances
Bodies in solution or vapor form, possibly in the presence of fittings;
to be effected.
Deutschen
Chem. Gesellschaft, Band 6o, S,eite a i q:9) gereinigtem Naturkautschuk in Cyclohexan
wird auf eine saubere horizontale Glasplatte ausgegossen.
Man läßt
In the described whiteness of pure natural rubber, in particular freed from protein substances, crystal-clear and (if the treatment is carried out at temperatures that are not too high) colorless products are obtained, which no longer show the typical high elasticity of natural rubber even when they are in a very thin form are present. By choosing the temperature and duration of the action of the volatile inorganic sulfur compounds, one has to give it to the hand, to the films, tapes, etc., any degree of hardness. Example i A clear solution of natural rubber in cyclohexane, purified by the method of P ummerer (Liebigs Annalen; Volume 438, page 295, and Ber. D. Deutsche Chem. Gesellschaft, Volume 6o, S, page aiq: 9) is applied to a Poured clean horizontal glass plate. The solvent is allowed to evaporate and the film obtained in this way, for example 0.2 mm thick, is exposed to sulfuric chloride vapors at 90 to 100 °. As soon as the film no longer has the high elasticity typical of the starting material, it is washed with dilute ammonia and then with water. A transparent, celluloid axttigges product is obtained. Example z A clear, approximately 5% solution of rubber in cyclohexane, which has been cleaned by treating with sodium hydroxide solution, is poured onto a clean horizontal glass plate. The approximately 0.05 mm thick film, obtainable after evaporation of the solvent, is left in a sulfurous morur atmosphere at 70 ° until the film is no longer rubber-like elastic. After the conversion has ended, the film is heated briefly to 70 ° for deaeration and treated with dilute ammonia. You get an almost crystal-clear, colorless, waterproof, celluloid-like film, the hardness of which can be changed to a large extent by changing the treatment method. Example 3 a. Untreated rubber film produced according to the examples is removed from its base after the solvent has been removed, stretched on a frame and left in a sulfur chloride atmosphere at 100 ° until the desired hardness is achieved. The reaction product is then vented; washed and dried.
In analoger Weise
verarbeiten. The process for producing films can also be made continuous by pouring the rubber solution onto a film drum using a film caster, pulling off the dried film, passing it through a sulfur chloride atmosphere and then washing and drying in the manner indicated above. Example q. A clear solution of rubber in cyclohexane, which has been purified by dissolving rolled crepe in a mixture of cyclohexane and ether and precipitating it with methyl alcohol, is processed into a film that is treated with sulfur chloride vapors until the reaction product is no longer elastically stretchable . In an analogous manner, solutions of rubber in cyclohexane, which was obtained from rubber milk mixed with ammonium chloride to a hydrogen ion concentration of 8.5 by treatment with trypsin and precipitating with acetic acid, can be processed into films that no longer have the typical high elasticity of natural rubber .
