Process for the production of a yellow which can be used as a porcelain paint,
in particular for sharp fire underglazes. The invention relates to a method
for the production of a ceramic dye, which is particularly suitable for use
suitable for sharp fire underglazes. It is known that the ceramicist in his
Sharp-fire china pallet, d. H. for fires that occur at temperatures of
about 135o to 1450'C, so far a pronounced yellow was missing.
It has now been found that you can get such a completely fire-resistant
Yellow can be obtained when using uranium compounds or uranium oxide with zirconium oxide on high
Temperatures heated. As such temperatures for making these highly heat-resistant
Underglaze colors come e.g. B. those from 170o to. igoo ° C into consideration. It has
it has been shown that if, for example, a mixture of finely powdered zirconium oxide
with black uranium oxide, such as black glaze in the porcelain industry
Is used at temperatures that exceed 160o to 165o ° C and about
between i7oo to igoo ° C, heated, without melting or entering
Sintering the mass forms a yellow, finely powdered product. This can vary depending on
the level of the selected temperature in its hue between deep orange to pure yellow
and can be used as paint immediately after simply stirring.
In the preparation of the mixture a ratio of 100 parts of zirconium oxide is required
5 to 6 parts of uranium oxide should, if possible, not be exceeded significantly in favor of the latter,
otherwise the mass remains gray after heating and not as a yellow dye
is usable. Mixtures of about 1 part have proven to be particularly advantageous
Uranium oxide and 100 parts of zirconium oxide have been proven.
Instead of or in addition to black uranium oxide, other uranium compounds,
such as B. uranium nitrate, uranium sulfate or uranium phosphate, use. Also at
the preparation of the dye using these compounds begins and
the reaction with zirconium oxide takes place at approximately the same temperatures
as when using black uranium oxide, d. H. the start is around 160o
to 165o °, while at about 170o to igoo ° the reaction essentially takes place.
Example i part of black uranium oxide and 100 parts of zirconium oxide are mixed together if possible
intimately finely ground and then z. B. in a zirconium crucible to about 170 ° to 1800 °
C, whereupon the temperature increased to about igoo ° C towards the end of the reaction
can be. The resulting yellow mixture remains
fine powdery
and can be easily removed from the zirconium crucible for new melts
can be used immediately. The yellow powder is then triturated and is without
further ready for use as porcelain paint.
