Die eine dieser beiden Walzen, die sogenannte Auftragwalze, taucht in die aufzutragende Flüssigkeit und überträgt diese in einer mehr oder minder dünnen Schicht auf die vorbeigeführte Bahn. Die Stärke der aufgetragenen Flüssigkeitsschicht hängt erstens ab von dem ■'Flüssigkeitsgrade der Lösung und zweitens von der Geschwindigkeit, mit der sich die Bahn vorwärts bewegt. Die Einstellung der Schichthöhe geschieht daher durch entsprechende Wahl dieser beiden Faktoren.
