Description
Cast iron alloy articles with high fire resistance higher chromium content Chromium steel alloys with a low carbon content (below 0.5%) are versatile due to their excellent mechanical properties Use. For the production of objects to which high requirements are related are placed on fire resistance, these alloys come as a result of the high Production costs generally not taken into account. There are also chromium steel alloys known with higher carbon contents due to their extraordinary hardness for cutting tools and other purposes have been proposed and at the same time some Have resistance to oxidation at lower and higher temperatures should.
The invention relates to articles with high fire resistance made of iron alloys with higher chromium and carbon content, e.g. B. Incandescent pots, hardening boxes, melting vessels, furnace parts and similar objects which, in addition to the highest level of fire resistance, must have special mechanical properties. The objects not only have to withstand the oxidation at very high temperatures, but also have to withstand the other components contained in the fire gases, such as CO., CO, SO . They must also have great strength even at high temperatures and, in particular, withstand the large temperature fluctuations to which they are exposed, as well as internal thermal stresses, structural changes and changes in volume without damage.
According to the invention, these objects are to be produced from alloys with 10.0% to 34o% chromium and 1.5% to 3.05% carbon. These alloys are to a large extent within the alloy known from American patent specification 1 245 552 . area. With these well-known alloy. Since the alloys are multicomponent, various structural components occur. In part, the structure consists mainly of mixed crystals; in part, there are primarily deposited carbides in the hypereutectic alloys.
By establishing the iron-chromium-carbon ternary diagram it was found that the eutectic line of the iron-carbon diagram is to shift unexpectedly to lower carbon contents, so that already at lower Carbon content creates the carbide eutectic corresponding to the ledeburite. Experiments have shown that the hypereutectic alloys with with increasing chromium or carbon content, those primarily deposited in the eutectic Carbide crystals assume such large dimensions that these alloys as a result the resulting greater brittleness for the objects mentioned are usable. on the other hand show alloys with a structure which consists mainly of mixed crystals, less favorable properties; particularly when pouring.
Objects with a structure have proven to be particularly suitable that mainly, z. B. to 50% to 70%, from the ledeburit of the iron-carbon diagram corresponding carbide eutectic to the exclusion of primary pre-eutectic carbides consists.
Stahl und Eisen 1924, Bd. i, Seite 717, Abb.3) bestimmen. A very specific alloy area is characterized by this structure. The chromium and carbon contents can be determined from the iron-chromium-carbon diagram (see also Stahl und Eisen 1924, vol. I, page 717, Fig.3). Within the narrower limits of about 22 ° / o to 26% chromium and 1.8% to 2.2 0/0 Coal This structure is achieved with certainty. The relationship between the type of structure and the fire resistance and the mechanical properties of the alloy can be changed by changing the other admixtures of the alloy and other additives.
The articles according to the invention have an extraordinary one high fire resistance and are at temperatures up to about i ioo ° over all Attacks of the type described persist for an almost indefinite period.
