Description

Methods of Purifying Brewer's Yeast It is known to use charcoal to discolor liquids and remove flavors and odors therefrom. In addition, in experiments that are described in the Biochemical Journal, Volume 183, page 452, it has been found that the fermentation-inhibiting properties of certain substances added to the fermentation liquid, eg. B. the uretans, can be canceled by adding animal charcoal to the fermentation liquid due to the adsorption of these fermentation-inhibiting substances by the coal.

The new method for cleaning brewer's yeast is made of the possibility the removal of coloring, smelling and tasting components by means of Coal was used in a new way, in the way that the muddy Brewer's yeast mixed with crushed coal and, after sufficient exposure, the coal is removed again from the yeast by a washing or slurrying process. The coal adsorbs the value-reducing substances of brewer's yeast in a relatively short time, without damaging the yeast cells in their ability to develop and ferment will. If you want to keep the yeast purified by means of charcoal, then the known Way, the excess water is removed by squeezing. Treatment of brewer's yeast with charcoal can be repeated if necessary. That is enough for 100 parts of brewer's yeast Use of 1 kg of crushed coal, which in the subsequent elutriation process and the washout rises to the top and is removed from there.

The speed with which the yeast is cleaned after the new process is possible by maintaining the original composition the yeast and its properties and the reliability of the cleaning effect by means of the coal, the new process differs from all previously known, Process for the same purpose for purifying brewer's yeast.

Embodiment ibo 1 thick brewer's yeast, as in the brewery falls off, are mixed well with 0.5 kg of crushed linden coal; the mixture after some time, about iooo 1 of water is added, which is expediently poured in from below lets the mixture of yeast and charcoal enter. The coal rises immediately above; after the yeast has settled a little, the excess water is left in Drain with the charcoal and repeat the washing process several times until that's over the yeast stagnant water is clear. Then the yeast sludge, which is on settled on the ground, freed from excess water by pressing. The cleaning process is finished after about an hour.

PATENT CLAIM Process for cleaning brewer's yeast, characterized in that the brewer's yeast is intimately mixed with coal for some time, then freed from this by washing with water and the excess water is removed after the yeast has been allowed to settle.
