Das betreffende Erz bezw. Oxyd wird als Pulver angewendet und das Futter daraus entweder so hergestellt, dafs man das Oxydpulver auf den Sand unter Bildung einer zusammenhängenden Schicht aufstreut bezw. auf demselben vertheilt, oder dafs man das Futter für sich herstellt und dann in die Form einlegt. Im letzteren Falle wird das Oxydpulver bis zur Herstellung einer stark oxydhaltigen, plastischen Masse mit Holzstoifzeug vermischt, am zweckmäßigsten, indem man das Oxydpulver unter das Holzstoifzeug stampft. Diese Masse, wird in einer der Gröfse und Form des herzustellenden Gufsstückes entsprechenden Dicke auf das M'odell aufgetragen und darauf letzteres unter eine (am zweckmäfsigsten hydraulische) Presse gebracht, um den oxydischen Ueberzug zu verdichten, worauf man trocknen läfst. Nach dem Trocknen ist dann der oxydische Ueberzug fertig zum Gebrauch als Futter für die Form..
