Gas-absorbing compound for lining casting molds to achieve
dense metal outer pieces It is known that metals and metal alloys, e.g. B.
Copper; absorb gases in the castings produced during melting
Cause porosity and leakage.
The absorbed gases are both oxidizing
as well as of a reducing kind. Both can be present at the same time. When pouring
and solidification in the mold, the cast metal also absorbs oxygen,
because it comes into contact with the air. By using seed oils and molding sand binders,
which represent organic substances that carbonize at the casting temperature
reducing gases, which gives the cast metal the opportunity, also such
take up in the mold. So far, treatment has been carried out to eliminate this nuisance
the liquid metal in the crucible with the gas-binding agents, such as phosphorus copper,
Phosphorus tin, boron, manganese, aluminum etc., but only the oxidizing gases are harmless
can make and eliminate, while neither they nor their decay products affect the
act in reducing gases present in the metal flow.
According to the invention, the mold is now lined with such means,
which both bind oxidizing gases and render reducing gases harmless. As such
The organic compounds of tin have gas-binding agents in the casting mold
and lead as well as their oxides in a mixture with an organic substance, and
Although in casting molds of any kind. The organic substance can be a reducing agent or
be a binder or both.
To carry it out, the mold is clad with resinous acid, for example
Lead out. Lining the mold and coating the cores can be done both by
the powder bag as well as by spraying the lead compound through a
Atomizer take place, it does not matter whether the agent to be applied
is in solution or slurry. Is it the casting of Meta11 in
Molds, an insulating layer is first applied to the wall of the metal mold
made of graphite, carbon or an equivalent substance and covers it
Insulating layer with the gas absorbing agent. This avoids the
Metal (coming from the gas-absorbing mass) into the wall of the metal mold
penetrates. Such an insulating layer is also recommended for sand molds.
When the liquid metal enters the mold, it occurs in the coating compound
The following reactions a As a result of the pouring temperature, the resin-acid lead breaks down
in pyrophoric lead and reducing gases. The finely divided lead reacts with
the oxidizing gases, whereby it itself is oxidized again to lead oxide.
That
Lead oxide now on the mold wall and core surface is reduced by reducing
Gases converted back into metallic lead, which when the casting is sucked in
is absorbed by this and penetrates 3 to 5 mm therein.
The processes just mentioned achieve: I. Oxidising gases
are bound by the gas-absorbing mass; 2. The reducing gases will be
rendered harmless; 3. through the penetration of the metal (from the gas-binding mass
originating) in the casting, its surface is compacted; q .. through the just
mentioned process, the surfaces of the casting are more corrosion resistant than
the potted material.
