Description

Verfahren zum Konservieren Zum Konservieren der verschiedensten Stoffe und Gegenstände, insbesondere von bestimmten Nahrungsmitteln, ferner von Nahrungsmittelgefäßen, Dosen, Verpackungsmaterial, Verschlüssen usw., die mit Nahrungsmitteln in Berührung kommen, eignen sich, wie gefunden wurde, ganz besonders die kernhalogenierten Carvacrole. Der Geruch und Geschmack dieser Phenole ist an sich sehr wenig hervortretend und wird noch dadurch zurückgedrängt, daß man von den kernhalogenierten Carvacrolen nur sehr geringe Mengen zur Konservierung braucht. Man kann also die halogenierten Carvacrole in so großer Verdünnung anwenden, daß auch eine irgendwie schädigende Wirkung auf den Organismus vollkommen ausgeschlossen ist. Bei der Konservierung von Früchten kann man so verfahren, daß man die eingemachten Früchte, z. B. Gurken, mit einem Papier bedeckt, welches mit dem betreffenden halogenierten Carvacrol getränkt ist. Die halogenierten Carvacrole sind an sich in Wasser schwer löslich. Im Laufe der Zeit tritt aber Lösung ein, das Halogencarvacrol geht aus dem Papier in die wäßrige Fruchtlösung über und entfaltet hier seine konservierende Wirkung. Man kann auch die halogenierten Carvacrole mit Hilfe von Lösesalzen, z. B. carvacroxyessigsauren Salzen, in Lösung bringen. Ein besonders vorteilhaftes Verwendungsgebiet ist die Konservierung von Cellulosehydratkapseln, wie man sie vielfach zum Verschließen von Gefäßen verwendet. Diese Kapseln werden feucht aufbewahrt und neigen, wenn man sie nicht mit Konservierungsmitteln versetzt, zu Schimmelbildung. Bisher galt als besonders wirksames Konservierungsmittel für solche Kapseln der Formaldehyd.
