Bei den gewöhnlichen Holzschrauben ist die Steigung des Gewindes derart, dafs die Schraube bei jeder Drehung verhältnifsmäfsig nur um wenig vorrückt. Wenn zum schnelleren Ein-. dringen der Schraube die Steigung erhöht wird, ■ ohne dafs zugleich eine Aenderung der Gröfse oder Gestalt des Gewindeganges eintritt, so wird die Rinne zwischen den Gewindegängen vergröfsert. Durch Vermehrung der Steigung des Gewindes wird aber der Halt an dem Holz verringert, was namentlich am Spitzentheil der Schraube von Nachtheil ist, wo infolge des kleinen Durchmessers der Halt des Gewindes viel geringer als an dem cylindrischen Theil der Schraube ist. An der dargestellten Schraube ist hiergegen dadurch Vorkehrung getroffen, dafs ein Ergänzungs- oder Zwischengewinde zwischen denjenigen Gängen der Schraube angebracht wird, die als Ausläufer des Gewindes des Schraubenschäftes anzusehen sind.In ordinary wood screws the pitch of the thread is such that the screw advances relatively little with each turn.
