Es genügt u. a. schon ein Erwärmen auf höhere Temperatur, z. B. Wasserbadtemperatur, um das Produkt in kaltem Wasser unlöslich zu machen. Beschleunigt wird dieser Vorgang durch gewisse Zusätze, vor allem von solchen Stoffen, welche Gerbstoffeigenschaft haben bzw. Eiweiß zu fällen vermögen, wie Tannin, Formaldehyd. Erforderlich ist dieser Zusatz im allgemeinen aber nicht, so daß sich dieses Verfahren von anderen Verfahren, z. B. dem Härtungsverfahren von Leim, Gelatine usw. mit Formaldehyd, vorteilhaft unterscheidet.
