In so dargestellten Lösungen
besaß die Kieselsäure anfangs ungefähr das Molekulargewicht einer Trikieselsäure;
Production of silicic acid with simple or low molecular weight
Silicas are first from F. My lius and E. Groschuf f (Chem. Ber. Vol. 39 :, p.
I 16, 19o6) by using sodium silicate for neutralization
just add a sufficient amount of hydrochloric acid, namely until the color changes
of methyl orange, i.e. practically / u a pH of about 3.7. In the solutions presented in this way
The silica initially had approximately the molecular weight of a tri-silica;
but the shelf life of low molecular weight silica was too great for its application
small amount. On the basis of a study by W. F 1 e m i n g on the coagulation speed
colloidal silica (Ztschr. physik. Chem. Bd.: 41, p. 427, 1902) throw M y
l i u s und G r o s c h u f f die asks whether not the completely pure silica
will be relatively stable in aqueous solution despite its instability. We have
now found that, on the contrary, pure silica does not have sufficient resistance
possesses in order to be able to be used technically, but only those solutions which
next to it still contain so much another acid that the pH is between 1.5
and 3.5 is located.
If water glass is acidified to this acidity range, which is favorable for the durability of molecularly dissolved silica, then, as the quantitative osmosis by animal shows, the entire amount of silica is present in the form of low molecular acid, and if the experiment is carried out accordingly in the form of monosilicic acid (Si03H. Or SiO, Hj. These solutions are obtained by allowing approximately equivalent alkali silicate and mineral acid or acetic acid solution to flow together under optimal pH adjustment or by adding silicon chloride to cooled water with calculated amounts of soluble or insoluble bases Silica, which distinguishes it from silicic acid sols, determines its practical use, for example for impregnating wood and fabrics.Examples 1. 179 Silicon chloride is added to 1 l of water for a quarter of an hour while stirring vigorously and with good cooling gene, in which 4.5 g of silver oxide are suspended. When the entry is complete, the pH of a sample taken is checked, which should be 2 to 2.5, and corrected if necessary by adding more silver oxide. The silver chloride formed is quickly filtered off through a thin layer of carbon or diatomaceous earth. The clear solution contains about 0.5 ° / "Si O" which is mainly present as monosilicic acid.
Si0, . 5 H#0) in 5 1 Wasser,
From two identical containers provided with an outlet, one is filled with a solution of 212 g sodium silicate (Na. SiO,. 5 H # 0) in 5 l of water, the other with 5 l of water containing 76 g of HCl . In a small mixing vessel equipped with a stirrer and drain, exactly equal amounts of the two solutions are allowed to come together in a rapid stream. In addition to table salt, the liquid leaving the mixing vessel contains molecularly dissolved silica.
