Dem steht aber als Nachteil gegenüber, daß man, besonders bei Mehrzylindermaschinen, eine große Anzahl Brennstoffpumpen ausführen muß. Man verwendet daher in einem solchen Falle vielfach für diejenige Zylinderseite, auf welcher mehr als ein Brennstoffventil angeordnet ist, eine gemeinsame Pumpe für diese Ventile. Hierdurch entsteht die Schwierigkeit, daß man im Betrieb schlecht feststellen kann, ob nicht die eine oder andere der Brennstoffdüsen verstopft ist. Man hat in solchem Falle kein äußerliches Merkmal, wodurch man dies erkennen könnte, weil im Falle der Verstopfung einer Düse der Brennstoff seinen Weg durch die übrigen, nicht verstopften Düseri nehmen würde. Die Maschine würde aber, weil die Mischung von Brennstoff und Luft ungleichmäßig werden würde, sogleich schlechter arbeiten.
