Der Apparat ist gebildet aus dem Gefäfse a, welches mit dem Trichter d und dem Rohr b versehen ist. Letzteres wird mit seinem unteren Ende in den Spund oder zwischen die Dauben des Fasses eingetrieben oder eingeschraubt und communicirt durch seine obere Oeffhung mit dem Gefäfse a. Der Trichter d erhält seitliche Oeffnungen 0 unter dem Boden e, damit das Wasser, welches durch denselben eingegossen wird, nicht in das Rohr b, sondern in das Gefäfs α gelangt. Der Trichter könnte jedoch auch einfach neben dem Rohr b angebracht werden. Wird durch den Trichter d, wenn sich das Rohr b in dem verschlossenen Fafs befindet, Wasser in den Behälter α gebracht, so wird dasselbe so lange durch. die kleinen Oeffnungen c durchtropfen, falls dieselben nicht zugehalten werden, bis der Trichter d verschlossen ist. Ist letzteres geschehen, so ist der Luftzuflufs abgesperrt und das Abfliefsen des Wassers kann nicht mehr erfolgen. Wird nun das Fafs angezapft, so tritt die erforderliche Luft durch die Oeffnungen c ein und gelangt durch das Rohr b nach dem Fasse. Sobald das Fafs durch den Hahn wieder verschlossen wird, ist auch die Luft durch das Wasser in dem Gefäfse α vollständig abgeschlossen.
