Abstract

Disclosed is a method for optimizing the surface geometry of bevel or hypoid gears or a variable/variables that depend/s thereupon in order to produce said gears on a free forming machine which can be reversibly reproduced in an unambiguous manner with the exception of symmetries on a basic free forming machine comprising a maximum of six axes, a gear that is to be machined, and a tool. The gear that is to be machined and the tool are rotatable about one axis, respectively, while being movable, preferably in a sliding or rotating fashion, relative to each other along or about a plurality of axes. In order to optimize the surface geometry of the bevel or hypoid gear or the variable/s that depend/s thereupon, one or several control parameters which has/have an influence on the surface geometry of the bevel or hypoid gear or the variable/s that depend/s thereupon is/are varied on the basic free forming machine based on a simulation of the gear production process and/or a rolling process and/or an analysis of the load contact until the surface geometry of the bevel or hypoid gear or the variable that depends thereupon matches at least one predefined target size.
