Process for the preparation of vat dyes In your main patent 475 342 a process for the preparation of vat dyes is described, which consists in treating the aminobenzanthrone obtained by reducing the nitrobenzanthrone described in French patent 349 534 additive 6435, Example 2, with alkaline agents . This creates z. B. with alcoholic potash according to Example i of the main patent, a dye that dyes cotton in real green tones.
It has now also been shown that you can also get valuable green
Vat dyes are obtained when substitution products of the above-mentioned aminobenzanthrone,
which contain exchangeable substituents in the Bzi position, or their N-acyl derivatives
treated with alkaline agents. This could not be foreseen, as it was made up of Bzi substitution products
benzanthrone derivatives usually produce dyes of the isodibenzanthrone series,
which usually have different shades than the corresponding dibenzanthrone derivatives.

In the patent specification 445 845 a process for the production of vat dyes is described, in which A-rninc>' halogenbenzanthrones, which are formed by reducing nitrated Bzihalogenbenzantfirons, are treated with alkaline condensation agents. As stated in the first paragraph of patent specification 445 845, the dyes produced by that process are derived from a mitrobenzanthrone in which the nitro group is bonded to the anthraquinone residue on which the benzanthrone is based. In contrast, the amino group of the dyes obtainable by the present process is not located in the anthraquinone radical, since anthraquinone-i-carboxylic acid is formed by oxydation of the aminobenzanthrone used as the starting material. EXAMPLE 10 parts of aniino-benzi-bromobenzanthrone, obtained by bromination of the acetyl derivative of the above-mentioned aminobenzantefirone in glacial acetic acid and saponification of the acetyl compound, are added at 14 ° to 145 ° to a melt obtained from 50 parts of potassium hydroxide and 50 parts of ethyl alcohol, after which the temperature is added for one hour is held at 14o to 145 '. This is followed by stirring into water, blowing out with air, suctioning off and drying. The dye obtained dissolves in sulfuric acid with a violet color and stains cotton from a blue vat a strong green; when chlorinated, the color changes to brown. EXAMPLE 2 10 parts of acetylamino-benzanthrone Bzi-thiakresyl ether, obtained by condensation of the acietylamiao - Bz 1 -bromobenzanthrone mentioned in Example 1 with pT-hicrlcresol, are carried into a molten alcohol made from 50 parts of potassium hydroxide and 50 parts of ethyl alcohol and further treated as in example i. - The dye is identical to that of example i.
