geworden, Eisencarbonyl in ununterbrochenem Arbeitsgang technisch herzustellen.Process for the preparation of iron carbonyl In the patent, 1.q.7 130
is a process for the production of iron carbonyl by passing over carbon oxide
under high pressure and at a temperature of about zoo to zoo ° over metallic
Iron described, at which by high flow velocity of the gas, the
Deposition of liquid carbonyl on the iron, which stimulates the reaction
prevents, avoids and thus continuously produces carbonyl. This makes it possible
to produce iron carbonyl technically in an uninterrupted operation.
It has now been shown, surprisingly, that if the
called flow velocity, d. H. when passing over in such a way that it is too
considerable deposition of the reaction product on the iron does not occur,
a reaction gas even when working under normal or slightly elevated pressure
of practically uniform and so considerable under constant conditions
Carbonyl content (from about ¢ to 6 Vol.%) Is obtained that the iron carbonyl
can be obtained by known means such as cooling or absorption.
It is advantageous to use highly reactive iron masses, such as
she z. B. obtained from sponge iron or other metallic iron masses
can be that one in the preparation of the mass for carbonyl formation each
Oxidation excludes, or that one pretreatment before using the mass
with reducing gases.
After the iron carbonyl has been separated off, as in the case of the process
the main application pass the residual gas in the circuit again over the iron. the
With regard to the position of the equilibrium, the temperature in the reaction chamber is the

to be chosen lower than with high pressure. One receives under atmospheric pressure z. B. already
at 15 'iron carbonyl, however, the rate of formation is at this low temperature
very low. The latter is significantly accelerated by increasing the temperature, and
obtained at atmospheric pressure, e.g. B. at 6o 'C, good yields. The temperature

but if you increase the pressure, the dissociation is suppressed, and you can
go even higher with temperature. Instead of carbon monoxide, a carbon monoxide-rich one can also be used
Gas mixture can be used; it can be z. B. technical, de-carbonated
Use water gas with an average carbon dioxide content of 40 per cent. Appropriate
it is, in the case of gases poorer in carbon monoxide, under slightly increased pressure
work, since the partial pressure of the carbon oxide is decisive for the carbonyl formation

of iron carbonyl by adding certain substances to the iron or carbon oxide
raise. You can z. B. the carbon monoxide small amounts of ammonia, hydrogen,
Add methanol vapor or formaldehyde. Oxygen, carbonic acid and other substances,
which can have an oxidizing effect on the iron, on the other hand, are to be excluded from the gas as far as possible,
as they often, even if only present in traces, are the surface of the iron for the
