Description

Eine beispielsweise Ausführung zeigt Abb. i. Eine gleiche Anordnung in Form eines Quadrantenelektrometers zeigt Abb. 2.Electrometers for determining the course of electrical potential surfaces, methods to determine air-electrical potential surfaces in nature with the help of an electrometer and a collector separated therefrom are already known. All of these methods use an electrometer or other voltage indicator connected to a separate collector. It is known that each of these two parts disturbs the potential surfaces in its vicinity and also causes an undesirably high capacity of the overall arrangement, which must be canceled again by a suitably high charging speed of the collectors; in addition, the convenience of working suffers. The invention described below aims to reduce both disadvantages by designing a part of the electrometer itself by shape or properties in such a way that it acts as a collector. On the one hand, this can greatly reduce the capacitance, on the other hand, the deformations of the equipotential surfaces caused by the collector and its conductive connection with the electrometer are eliminated. In addition, the convenience of working is increased, since the entire apparatus can be built extremely compensated. An example embodiment is shown in Fig. I. Here, a is a rod-shaped body that acts as a collector through tip action or activation at its end. The counter-collector is the downward pointing pointer b, which is also activated at its tip, so that with a suitable arrangement the potential gradient between two surfaces is measured, the distance between which is given by the spatial distance between the ends of rod a and pointer b . A similar arrangement is shown in Fig. 4, where the pointer a is designed as a collector analogous to the one just described, and Fig. 3 in which two rod-shaped collectors are connected to the two electrodes between which the electrometer needle moves, so that here too Potential gradient is measured between the two points, which are designated by the ends of the two collector rods. The same arrangement in the form of a quadrant electrometer is shown in Fig. 2.
