Diese Schwindung, die zum großen Teil auf das Abspalten von Wasser und sonstigen flüchtigen Bestandteilen während des Kondensationsvorganges zurückzuführen ist, kann auch beim Verbinden oder Verfugen einzelner Resitplatten mit noch ungehärteten Gemischen aus Phenol-Formaldehyd.-Kondensationsprodukten und Zusatzstoffen ein Aufreißen der Fuge infolge von Materialspannungen bzw. Materialzusammenziehungen verursachen. Dieser Fall tritt insbesondere dann stets ein, wenn die aneinanderstoßenden, zu verfugenden oder zu verbindenden Kanten oder Flächen glatt sind. In dler Zeichnung sind verschiedene Ausführungsformen veranschaulicht. Die zu verbindenden Resitplatten a und b (Abb. r) sind an den zu verbindenden Kanten mit Lochungen c versehen.
