Insbesondere ist es bekannt, zur Gewinnung eines Lötmittels Borax (Na2B4O7) und Borsäureanhydrid (B2O3) zu gleichen Teilen zu mischen oder auch Mischungen von Alikalisalzen (Borax ader Soda) und Borsäure in solchem Verhältnis herzustellen, daß auf 1 Mol. Natrium oxyd etwa 3 bis 4 Mol. Borsäureanhydrid kommen. Die so zusammengesetzten Löt- oder Flußmittel, die sich nur in ihrem Borsäuregehalt voneinander unterscheiden, reagieren infolge dieses Säuregehaltes sauer. Läßt man sie auf Reinaluminium einwirken, so greifen sie das Metall auch bei längerer Einwirkung nicht an. Diese Mittel sind nämlich nicht imstande, die oberflächliche Oxydschicht des, Metalls zu beseitigen. Beim Löten oder Schweißen mit diesen Mitteln entsteht ein schwerfließender Metallschmelzfluß unter gleichzeitiger Bildung von Oxydklümpchen. Infolgedessen läuft hierbei die Oberfläche der Schweißnähte schmutzig an und ist rauh und ungleichmäßig.Soldering agents containing borax and boric acid as essential ingredients have already been proposed.
