Schienenschweißung.Rail welding.
A device is known in which two pouring openings are provided,
evenly through the iron to both sides of the rail, but the slag through
special slag catchers are prevented from entering the mold.
The invention relates to a casting mold with only one lateral pouring opening. In such casting molds for the aluminothermic ^ ίο welding of rails by pressing the latter together, the sprue opens into the lower part of the casting mold. The heavier iron first flows out of the reaction crucible, which has to be cut from below, and fills the mold from the bottom up to about the middle of the bridge. The subsequent lighter slag does not initially get into the actual mold, but only fills the pouring opening until it reaches a threshold over which it now falls from above into the casting mold. With this arrangement of the casting mold, the inconvenience arises that the slag falling over the threshold first only fills one side of the mold, and only when it has risen above the rail head does it get over this into the other half of the mold Shape. While the slag now fills one side of the mold, the surface level of the iron must initially be lower on this side than on the other side of the rail due to the excess weight of the slag above it, according to the law of communicating tubes. But as soon as the slag gets over the rail head into the other half of the mold, the unevenness of the two surface levels of the iron goes back again, and this becomes the same on both sides of the rail. This fluctuation of the iron surface during the casting is now extremely detrimental to the quality of the weld, because that on the slide ! The aluminothermic iron flushing along the bridge often dissolves the material of the rail web to a considerable extent and leaves holes in the rail web when the surface level is lowered.
The invention overcomes this inconvenience by arranging the slag overflow
is that the slag almost simultaneously both parts of the form to the right and left of the
Rail fills. To achieve this, there is an overflow at the level of the overflow
and arranged trough bridging the rail in which the overflowing slag is conveyed and from which it
flows through two bottom holes on either side of the rail into the two parts of the mold. Both parts of the
Casting mold evenly with slag, the two surface mirrors of iron on the right and
to the left of the rail remain at their old level during the slag inflow, and washouts
of the rail web are avoided.
