Description

Process for the production of crystallized, basic aluminum nitrate. The invention relates to a process for obtaining crystallized, basic Nitrates of aluminum, which easily dissolve in water, and so do their solutions are surprisingly stable when diluted. They are obtained by adding basic Aluminum nitrate solutions, such as those produced by dissolving aluminum hydroxide in to saturation insufficient amounts of nitric acid are obtained, if necessary after the preceding Evaporation wholly or partially brings about crystallization. If one assumes such Solutions whose acidity is between one and two thirds of the total Saturation of the alumina required amount is or the latter value exceeds only a little, one observes that initially a salt crystallizes out, whose composition corresponds approximately to the formula A1 (OH) 2N03 + 3H20. With water this' salt gives clear solutions of great persistence.

After further concentration, more acidic ones separate from the mother liquor Nitrates, possibly last the normal aluminum trinitrate. But only should the salt just mentioned, known as aluminum dioxynitrate, is obtained, the mother liquor is used for dissolving after adding fresh nitric acid further amounts of aluminum hydroxide.

Beispiel i. Der Salzrückstand enthält 25,5 Prozent A1203 und 43,3 Prozent NO".There is known a crystalline basic aluminum nitrate which can be obtained by heating a solution of normal aluminum nitrate while adding water. It differs from the new compounds described above in that it is poorly soluble and has a low water content. Example i. A freshly precipitated aluminum hydroxide paste containing @ 10 parts by weight of A1203 "is dissolved in 28o parts by weight of 63 percent nitric acid and the solution is concentrated to 4q.o parts by weight. The salt that crystallizes out on cooling and contains 2g, 2 percent A403 and 36.4 percent NO" ( Calculated for z8.8 percent A1203 and 35.0 percent N030, is spun off; the mother liquor is added to a new batch of solution. Example 2. A solution obtained according to Example i is evaporated until complete crystallization 43.3 percent NO ".
