Description
Process for preventing the migration (diffusion) of carbon in iron and its alloys during the cementation process. In case hardening In many cases, only partial surface hardening is desired. Be for this purpose the areas to be kept soft with protective agents for the duration of the cementation process changed clothes. However, the previously known contraceptives offer no guarantee while cementation completely prevents the penetration of carbon into the material to be hardened to prevent.
According to the invention this drawback is remedied in that the known covering means, such. B. kaolin, clay, etc., a sulfur compound is added. This sulfur compound must have the property of changing into the liquid state only above the average cementation temperature (about 850 ° C.). Such a sulfur compound is e.g. B. sulfur iron; as an addition to the known covering means, it reliably prevents the penetration of carbon into the parts of the structural parts to be treated which are supposed to remain soft.
