Description
Process for neutralizing leather after tanning or after Bleaching. The harmful effect of acids, especially mineral acids, on the Fiber of leather. is known. However, so far no agent is known or in Application that allows neutralization without being dangerous to the self To be fiber or for the color of the leather, so that those means which z. B. can be used with chrome leather, such as borax or soaps, with vegetable tanned leathers are unusable. The demand of the leather processing industry after light-colored leathers, however, there is in the meantime the necessity to buy leather bleach, and the bleaching effect can only be achieved with excess acid.
The present invention becomes apparent from the use of Acids-yielding nuisance eliminated by adding compounds of hydrazine or organic Bases or their salts with volatile or high molecular weight organic acids for Neutralize can be used. The bases either do not react with the Tannins or form with them insoluble compounds that do not affect the color or less than the metal bases. Example: Vegetable Tanned leathers are, as usual, bleached by leaving the pieces on for a few seconds immersed in a very dilute soda solution and then, also for a few seconds, but so long that the color change clearly differs from the dark brown alkaline in the light, acidic tannin color is recognizable, in a likewise very dilute one Sulfuric acid or oxalic acid solution dipped. Then the leather is rinsed and immersed in a dilute, about 2 percent solution of aniline acetic acid, in the they linger about half a minute or longer, then rinsed again continue to be processed as usual. Alaungar leathers, which otherwise <light are neutralized with a solution of an aniline or pyridine salt treated, which increases the durability per se, especially against water will.
