Verfahren, um stark hygroskopische, als Trockenmittel benutzbare,
pulverförmige Stoffe, insbesondere Phosphorpentoxyd, in eine möglichst großoberflächige
Form zu bringen.Process for the treatment of highly hygroscopic, usable as desiccants,
powdery substances, especially phosphorus pentoxide, in as large a surface area as possible
To bring shape.
It is known to use hygroscopic substances as drying agents
To use connection with a porous carrier material. In all of these procedures
the porous support material with a more or less concentrated solution
soaked in the drying agent and the material obtained in this way is subjected to drying.
When using highly concentrated solutions, the desiccant should be used in this way
into a surface with as large a surface as possible and through which the medium to be dried can easily flow
Form to be transferred. When using very dilute solutions, this should also
Dripping of the desiccant liquefied by absorption of water and thus the
Smudging can be prevented. However, all these methods have the disadvantage that
practically only the desiccant sitting on the surface comes into effect, but
the main amount sitting in the interior of the grain is lost for the vortex, and
in particular in that the material is absorbed by water on the surface
its volume increases and thereby the access of moisture to the narrow pores
blocked. In addition, it is always necessary with these methods after soaking
of the carrier material to subject this to drying, which insofar difficulties
as the solvent sitting in the narrow pores inside the grain
must be removed. It is also impossible to achieve that in this way
Desiccant sits really firmly on the grain without dusting, unless that
part of the drying effect is waived and the desiccant is not completely
drains, but leaves a bit sticky.
B. The present method avoids all of these disadvantages
and the use of powdered drying agents in particular, such as phosphorus pentoxide,
for many purposes only made possible or designed particularly inexpensively. It is,
that the porous support material, e.g. B. pumice, with part of the desiccant that
was converted into syrupy form by absorption of water, is impregnated and this
so pretreated grains in a suitable manner with the remaining anhydrous powdery
Desiccant are brought together. So z. B.
Phosphorus pentoxide applied to pumice grains by cutting the pumice body
soaked with a little metaphosphoric acid and then with powdered phosphorus pentoxide
shakes, which now sticks firmly to the grains.
Experience has shown that about 115 of the total amount of phosphorus pentoxide is sufficient
to be converted into its hydrate, in order then to achieve the good adhesion of the remaining 415.
The desiccant is now obtained in grains according to the above procedure,
which in the
Technology can be put to good use. The one to be dried
Medium can now cross out the desiccant and so intensively and efficiently
dried - while the phosphorus pentoxide powder as such from the to be dried
Medium can only be painted over. On the other hand, the desiccant is now in place
on the surface and is used quantitatively, while with the previous methods
the main part of the desiccant sat unused inside the grain and only one
small part effective at the surface, so that much larger layers of the
Desiccants were necessary to achieve a certain effect. A drain
the desiccant liquefied by absorption of water cannot take place either.
This is rather from the interior of the grain, which is a large reservoir
represents to absorb liquids, soaked up. If the desiccant is exhausted,
so, by the way, the grains can be restored immediately by shaking them with phosphorus pentoxide
to be made effective again. So you can use the same grains if only once
are impregnated with metaphosphoric acid, are used several times in a row.
