Screw aircraft The previous screw aircraft are for
Absorption of the machine torque on the fuselage is usually two or more counter-rotating
Propellers used that are either coaxially one above the other or with lying parallel
Axes arranged side by side, but inevitably interconnected to
to achieve the same lifting force for each propeller as possible. With such designs
However, there is a great risk that if one screw fails, the entire apparatus
starts to move in a circular motion, which naturally prevents the propeller from running
more sufficient lifting force is generated. Apart from that, however, the execution prepares for a mess
Waves with the mostly common equiaxed arrangement certain structural difficulties.
The present invention is for the purpose of simplifying the structure and elevation
generally only one rotating propeller is used for operational safety,
while the engine torque is balanced by one below the main propeller
attached fixed so-called counterpropeller with curved guide vanes
he follows. - This takes the swirl of the screw jet, which reacts smoothly
of the torque introduced into the propeller arises, for the most part on -and conducts
the air masses in the axial direction downwards. This creates a twist on the one hand
of the fuselage around its vertical axis prevented and at the same time in a known manner
an additional lifting force is achieved, which significantly increases the efficiency of the drive
is improved. The arrangement of stationary guide vanes results in the present
Case still has the further advantage that on the one hand a stabilization of the whole apparatus
is achieved in the vertical direction of movement, on the other hand, the guide vanes
albeit as imperfect sliding surfaces when the aircraft glides backwards
serve in the event that the machinery should fail. This will
compared to previous versions or proposals in which any sliding surfaces
completely absent, a considerably higher level of security is achieved. The invention can also
extended to aircraft with several propellers next to each other
each of these receives its own counterpropeller and any direction of rotation
can own. Compared to known, similar designs, there is always
nor the advantage that the twist of each individual propeller is balanced for itself
is, so there is no free torque even if a propeller fails.
hervorruft. To compensate for any remaining torque on the fuselage,
can according to the invention either the whole counterpropeller blades, namely
all
or partially, or only a part of their blade surface around horizontal Que @ axes
be set up to be rotatable, as is already the case for other purposes in the case of guide vanes
was suggested. This agility can also be used to create a sideways movement
of the aircraft in any direction. When twisting opposite
Vanes or control surfaces will have the former effect, thus balancing one
any smaller free torque achieved in one direction or the other,
while the movement in the same direction of opposing blade surfaces a certain
Inclination of the vertical axis of the aircraft and thus lateral movement
evokes.
stehenden Leitschaufeln ergeben. The number of counterpropeller blades is for the present invention
not restricted; it can depending on the needs or later experience
compared to the number usually used for counterpropellers for watercraft
can be changed from six down or up. One for the aforementioned purposes
A particularly advantageous solution should be an arrangement with only four, namely crosswise
standing guide vanes result.
ist. Selbstredend ist für das Wesen der Erfindung die Art der Maschinenanlage gleichgültig;
A related example is shown in Fig. I and 2, where
A light high-voltage steam turbine system was assumed for the drive as a special case
is. It goes without saying that the nature of the machinery is irrelevant for the essence of the invention;
However, the first-mentioned type of drive has the advantage over motor drive that
the turbine (or turbines, if several are provided for greater safety
are) can work in any position, including with a vertical shaft, like this
that loss-making and complicating angular gears as with motor drives are omitted.
The steam drive itself also has that which is very advantageous for the present purpose
Ability to achieve the same performance at any altitude, or that significant
higher altitudes than can be reached with motorized propeller aircraft.
The steam drive also proves to be structurally very suitable in this case, provided that
several propellers are arranged in particularly large aircraft. Here could
for example, in a central main hull, the boiler or boilers with auxiliary machines
be housed while each propeller is powered by a special turbine
may be so that at the point of the off-center propeller only
there is a small proportion of the weight of the machinery.
an zusätzlicher Hubkraft ergeben.

eingezeichnet.
It denotes in Fig. I and 2 1 the fuselage of the aircraft, which at the same time

from which the control surfaces 15 articulated at the lower end of the blades 2

in order to be able to give them a different position relative to the screw beam.
WL bezeichnet
etwa in diesem Fall die Wasserlinie. In the example shown, the blades are: 2 at the outer end also provided with swellings 16 in order to be able to attach air buffers 17 to their lower end if necessary for a landing on firm ground; the fuselage i can also have such an air buffer 18 for this purpose. The swellings can, however, also be designed in their lower parts as water-tight containers or floats in order to be able to descend on water or rise from it at the same time, the position of these containers far out of the center offering sufficient stability against lateral wind attack. In this case, WL denotes the waterline.
In addition to the example shown, the inventive idea can of course
also in any other form and with a different type of drive, form and number of
Guide vanes or control surfaces, etc., without departing from the scope of the invention
to fall. In borderline cases, instead of four counterpropeller blades, if necessary
only three or two of which may be arranged, possibly for lateral movement
in a known manner a small auxiliary propeller with a generally horizontal axis
can be provided. Furthermore, the blades of the counterpropeller can optionally
at the outer end by a circumferential ring or jacket, of course
suitable profile shape would be mutually connected, this jacket
could also serve as an additional sliding surface when sliding backwards.
