Synchrongeneratoren, Synchronmotoren oder Umformer, ist es häufig erforderlich, in denselben Nuten eine Spulenwicklung und eine als Dämpferwicklung oder als Anlaßwicklung dienende Käfigwicklung unterzubringen. Dabei soll letztere nahe den Luftspalt der Maschine, also nahe der Nutenöffnung, liegen.
