The invention relates to a method for determining the
Material composition of samples according to the generic term
of claim 1 and a device for
Implementation of the method according to the preamble of
Claim 6, as known from US 4645342.
Also US 4645342, DE 27 16 810 A1 and DE
40 04 627 A1 contain methods and devices for
Determination of the material composition of substances under
Use of pulsed lasers to generate plasmas and
Assemblies for spectroscopic material determination. The
characteristic radiation emanating from the plasmas
measured with a time shift and spectrally decomposed, whereby from the
Radiation intensities of selected materials based on
numerical ratio values the associated
Concentration values are determined. Thereby always
used the emission lines of atoms whose
Concentration in the sample is known. Usually
such reference elements are not available and
a quantitative analysis is not possible. Even with in
existing reference elements exist on the fabric samples
Because of the very different and many factors
dependent plasma formation and different
Excitation energies of the individual materials high
Inaccuracy in the quantitative measurement. An absolute
Calibration of the described systems with known samples
Material composition fails for the same reasons.
Furthermore, the plasma excitation always takes place under
Argon atmosphere because the atmospheric oxygen causes the plasma discharge
and subsequent nuclear emission in an extremely short time
Time clears.
The invention has for its object the method and
the device for determining the material composition

Accuracy of quantitative measurement on existing ones
Reference elements is achieved and that even without
Reference elements a reliable quantitative measurement of
Substances becomes possible and the use of an inert gas
can be dispensed with.

in weiten Bereichen variiert.
Glasses containing lead and barium are used for the production of picture tubes, the admixture content of which varies widely. The recycling in glassworks requires the separation of the glass types into individual classes, which requires a quick analysis of each picture tube. In Fig. 1, the intensity spectra of a picture tube piston are shown, which were measured at different times to the plasma-inducing laser pulse. The third harmonic of an Nd: YAG pulse laser was used at a wavelength of 355 nm and a pulse duration of 5 ns as well as an accumulation rate of 20 pulses each for all measuring times. Spectrum 1 was measured in synchronism with the plasma development during the action of a laser pulse with an integration time of 5 ns. The spectral continuum is created by the extremely high temperature of the plasma. The measured intensity curve characterizes the energetic distribution and the total energy of the plasma radiation, which determine the excitation conditions of the materials. The atomic emission spectra at later times are normalized with this measurement curve.
Das Spektrum 2 wurde zum Laserimpuls mit einer
Zeitverzögerung von 150 ns und einer Integrationszeit von
180 ns gemessen.
Spectrum 2 was measured for the laser pulse with a time delay of 150 ns and an integration time of 180 ns. As a result of the rapid cooling of the plasma, the continuous portion of the radiation drops very rapidly, so that the atomic and molecular spectra are largely without a continuous background at the time of measurement. The spectra 1 and 2 are shown in the same wavelength range, the second spectrum being normalized by division using the first spectrum. The spectral line areas obtained in this way are largely proportional to the material concentration and can be interpolated from tables that were created by measuring calibration samples. The area of barium line 3 at 233.53 nm gives a barium oxide concentration in the glass of 0.5%. Accordingly, the lead line 4 characterizes a lead oxide concentration of 23.5% at 261.42 nm and the silicon line 5 a silicon dioxide concentration of 51.1% at 250.69 nm. In addition to the described excitation of atomic and molecular emissions in plasma, the photons of the laser radiation can also excite luminescence. The luminescence spectrum 6 was measured with a time delay and an integration time of 10 μs. It shows the 4f-4f emission of europium at the wavelengths 593 nm, 614 nm and 620 nm, which arises as a result of absorption of the laser radiation by the host material containing the rare earth and the subsequent energy transfer to the 4f shell. This result shows that the rare earths can be measured via their long-lived luminescence in the micro and millisecond range. This enables the investigation of phosphor admixtures for special rare earth-containing substances that can be applied to glasses.
Kamera 20 synchronisiert. Für die Auswertung und den Dialog
enthält das Auswertesystem einen Computer. Das gesamte
System wird durch die Netzteile 23 versorgt.
Das beschriebene Verfahren und die Vorrichtung ermöglichen
eine zuverlässige quantitative Bestimmung der
Materialzusammensetzung ohne Bezugselemente und ohne
Benutzung von Inertgasen für die Plasmaatmosphäre, da
Spektren zu charakteristischen Zeitpunkten zur Verfügung
stehen. In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the laser radiation 8 of the pulse laser 7 , here an Nd: YAG laser with frequency tripling via the focusing optics 9 and the mirror 10 , a high-power laser mirror, is directed onto the sample 11 and a plasma 12 of the sample is generated. The light emission 13 from the plasma is directed via the parabolic mirror 14 and the plane mirror 15 onto the inlet opening 16 of an optical fiber bundle 17 . The entry opening of the optical fiber bundle lies at the focal point of the parabolic mirror 14 . The plasma, the inlet opening of the optical fiber bundle and the mirrors 10 , 14 and 15 lie in an optical axis. The optical fiber bundle guides the light emission from the sample plasma to the entry slit of the spectrograph 18 , at the output of which an MCP image intensifier 19 is arranged. The spectrum imaged on the phosphor screen of the image intensifier is picked up by a photodiode line camera 20 and the measured intensities are transmitted to the evaluation system 21 . Both the evaluation system and the Nd: YAG laser, the MCP image intensifier 19 and the photodiode line camera 20 are synchronized by the control system 22 . The material composition is determined by accumulating several individual measurements. For each individual measurement, the control system 22 first triggers the flash lamp and Pockels cell of the Nd: YAG laser. With a defined delay, the control system then opens the MCP image intensifier 19 for a set integration time and synchronizes the photodiode line camera 20 , which decreases the spectrum. The evaluation system contains a computer for evaluation and dialogue. The entire system is supplied by the power supplies 23 . The described method and the device enable a reliable quantitative determination of the material composition without reference elements and without using inert gases for the plasma atmosphere, since spectra are available at characteristic times.
