Description
Process for the production of very fine tungsten wires, in particular for electric light bulbs. More than a decade ago people tried to thinnest drawn wires by chemical or electrochemical removal even more decrease in diameter. In practice, these have known removal measures however, it has not found widespread use since the wires are frequently after etching did not have a sufficiently uniform quality and thus the removal of the The diameter of the wires could only be reduced by a maximum of 113. Though through the well-known method, based on continuous mechanical processing, of tungsten wires up to a fine diameter of o, oi i in can be produced, so exists even now a considerable interest in obtaining tungsten wires, their Diameter is still much smaller, as well as the fact that tungsten wires on simpler ones Way while avoiding the last drawing stages up to about those cross-sections bring down, which can only be done with very careful monitoring of the pulling process can achieve maximum performance.
The invention now makes it possible, in the simplest possible way, to produce very fine tungsten wires of a very uniform quality, also by surface removal, from wires that have already been largely pulled down. In the past, however, in view of the already very small thickness of such tungsten wires, care was always taken to ensure that the process of electrochemical or chemical removal takes place as slowly as possible, for example by using very weak caustic agents such as ferricvankotassium, caustic soda , Ammonium persulphate solution or potassium permanganate, used for the ablation, according to the invention the ablation of the wires with an initial diameter of 0.05 nm and below is caused by a very violent and fast-acting agent that only lasts for a very short time, about i ' Minute and below, on which wires are brought into action.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that rapid removal the already very fine wires not only actually without destruction the same can be carried out, but even to a completely uniform removal of the wires over their entire length and even without difficulty down to 1/3 of the initial diameter same leads. With the rapid removal, a smooth, uniform one is obtained Surface, while with slow removal the wires have a rough surface and have an uneven texture. It is similar to the crystallographer the end the processes that take place when crystals dissolve are known.
Abrasives that act violently and rapidly are mainly used oxidizing melts such as potassium or sodium nitrite or nitrate and mixtures from these, optionally also 'sodium peroxide and lead chromate, can be considered. Such rapidly erosive melts or etchants are known per se, however, up to now they have only been used by sharpening tungsten wire, so to make things easier the wire pulling into the drawing nozzle as well as to the detachment of the itself in the initial stage the wire drawing on the rod-shaped starting body forming brittle outer skin, in other words, to facilitate the pulling of parts that are still partially brittle or not yet sufficient ductile tungsten bodies. In the present case, however, that will be quick effective removal means for further substantial reduction of an already largely pulled down and therefore already completely ductile wire, with one brittle outer skin, as with rod-shaped, only little mechanically processed bodies, does not exist.
The new ablation process can be used with particular advantages for the production of tungsten filaments for electric miniature incandescent lamps. One can proceed as follows, for example: On the glass feet of a number of dwarf incandescent lamps to be melted down, thoroxide-containing tungsten wires with a diameter of 0.014 mm are fastened in the form of a bow in a known manner. The total wire length of the bow-shaped tungsten filament depends on the voltage and varies between 4 and 6 mm. A melt of 34o ° wheel temperature is used as the removal or etching agent, which consists of a mixture of appropriately equal parts of sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate. The feet equipped with the Wolf ramdräten are immersed in this melt and left in it for a period of% minutes, the wires should have a diameter of 0.007 mm.
However, the feet with the tungsten wires are about 1 minute in the Melt-free, so the wires have after removing the feet a diameter of about 0.05 mm, are then at about M, their starting diameter brought. After the etching, the feet are thoroughly washed, dried and melted into the associated bells, whereupon the lamps are then in the known manner completed by venting and socketing «earth. The previous application of the unetched wires on the feet is therefore useful as a wire of less extremely difficult to hold as a diameter of o, oi mm due to poor visibility or is to be attached.
By using such a fine tungsten filament with a diameter of 0.007 or even 0.05 mm, the current consumption of electric dwarf incandescent lamps is reduced from around 20 to 300 milliamps to around 20 to 40 milliamps, with the result that the conventional dwarf incandescent lamps are powered used flashlight batteries are not exhausted after a use of% to 1 hour, but only after about 20 hours of use. The significantly lower power consumption of the dwarf lamps equipped with the new, extremely fine-stranded lamps, provided that one is satisfied with a depletion time of 1 to 2 hours for the batteries, makes it possible to get by with much smaller batteries than before.
The extremely fine tungsten wire which can be produced according to the invention can except for electric incandescent lamps and vacuum tubes also with great success as Suspension wire for very sensitive measuring instruments, especially torsion instruments, as well as crosshairs in optical instruments.
