Description

Process for the production of very porous, high-percentage barium oxide from a mixture of barium carbonate and charcoal. The patent specification 231645 describes a method according to which barium carbonate, mixed with coal, is heated by the radiant heat from electrical resistance rods. This method has the disadvantage that the fuel is heated unevenly, to the extent that the heat effect on the layers of the material to be fired further away becomes less and less. This arrangement therefore results in uneven heating of the items to be fired, and the consequence of this is an unnecessary increase in the initial temperature, with the result that the uniform porosity of the items to be fired suffers. The present method, on the other hand, consists in that barium carbonate, mixed with coal, soot, charcoal and the like, loosely or in molds, is placed in a closed furnace in which the arrangement of the heating sources placed through the furnace. such and their distance from one another is only so great that the heat radiating from them is distributed as evenly as possible to the items to be fired in between, and that the temperature at the surface is never the same as in the middle of the item to be fired. This is achieved by that the heating of the burning mass, which is in perfect rest, takes place simultaneously from two or from all sides by the radiant heat of the electrically operated heating sources, without the heating sources touching the material to be burned of the material to be fired so that the lower-lying reaction particles of the fuel have the same temperature as the parts of the fuel on the surface. This process produces a uniform, highly porous barium oxide.

The furnace used in the process is tightly sealed. As soon as the reaction takes place in the fuel, it develops very quickly Carbon dioxide gas. The gas is compressed in the furnace to such an extent that it is always atmospheric pressure or there is a little something about it. One acting on the gas inside the furnace Pump regulates the pressure of the gas. One can. the gas pressure in the furnace also by others regulate simple technical facilities. The furnace must be tightly sealed so that no atmospheric air enters it. This would affect the blooming reaction mass have a harmful effect and the extraction of a high-percentage barium oxide is impossible do.

PATENT CLAIM: Process for the production of very porous, high-percentage barium oxide from a mixture of barium carbonate and charcoal by the radiant heat from heating sources operated by the electric current, characterized in that the reaction mass is in complete calm at the same time from two or from all sides of the radiant heat exposes in such a way that the heat sources do not touch the material to be fired, with ordinary air pressure or a little over it being constantly maintained in the reaction chamber by means of an air pump or in any other arbitrary manner.
