Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of the sodium salt of 4-nitrotoluenes. sulfonic acid by sulfonation of p-nitrotoluenes with sulfur trioxide. 4-nitrotoluene-2- Sulfonic acid is used, for example, as a starting product for the production of 4,4'-diaminostilbene. 2,2'-disulfonic acid and 4-aminotoluene-2-sulfonic acid, which are used in the manufacture of dyes are important.
It is known to use 4-Nitrotoluen-2-sulfonic acid by sulfonation of p-Nitrotoluen with smoking To produce sulfuric acid at temperatures between 60 ° C and 100 ° C. Here a total of more than 3 moles of sulfur trioxide are used per mole of p-nitrotoluene, since the Excess sulfuric acid at the same time as a solvent for the resulting sulfonic acid acts.
A disadvantage of this implementation is the risk of the temperature exceeding what can lead to an explosive decomposition of the reaction mixture Contamination of the sulfuric acid significantly reduce this decomposition temperature. It is also known to sulfonate alkylaryl hydrocarbons with sulfur trioxide. The Implementation of the p-nitrotoluene with the SO₃ takes place in liquid sulfur dioxide or without solvent in the autoclave. The use of sulfur dioxide as a solvent as well as increased reactions compared to normal pressure In this case, equipment costs are disadvantageous.
The violent reactivity of SO₃ can be known in concentrated application lead to charring or uncontrollable condensation.
The invention has for its object to provide a process for the preparation of 4-Nitrotoluen- To develop 2-sulfonic acid by sulfonating p-nitrotoluenes with sulfur trioxide, that is more environmentally friendly compared to the known methods, mastered with certainty can be and leads to high yields.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by introducing a solvent Dichloroethane alternatingly dissolved in dichloroethane P-nitrotoluene and per mole of p- Nitrotoluen 1.6 mol of sulfur trioxide added dropwise in portions, the temperature to 75 ° C to 80 ° C increases, after about 45 minutes 0.4 mol of sulfur trioxide is added per mole of p-nitrotoluene, stirred for about 75 minutes at the above temperature and the reaction solution worked up.
The reaction solution is worked up by going to room temperature cooled solution was added dropwise water, which distilled off dichloroethane, added sodium chloride and the precipitated sodium salt of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid is separated off.
The process according to the invention leads, based on the p-nitrotoluene used Yields over 97% of theory and avoided by low reaction temperatures the danger of spontaneous decomposition.
The invention will be explained in more detail below using an example.
In a sulfonating flask with stirrer, thermometer, reflux condenser and entry opening 60 ml of dichloroethane were introduced at room temperature. To do this, dripped evenly Change 25 g of sulfur trioxide and a solution within approx. 10 minutes 27.4 g of p-nitrotoluene in 100 ml of dichloroethane. The temperature of the reaction mixture rose to 35 to 40 ° C and was then slowly increased to 78 ° C. After 45 minutes, a further 7 g of sulfur trioxide were added and a further 75 minutes stirred at 78 ° C. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture became 120 ml of water were added dropwise and the organic solvent was distilled off. The aqueous solution of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid was then mixed with 30 g of sodium chloride added and the precipitated sodium salt of 4-nitrotoluen-2-sulfonic acid after standing vacuumed overnight. The yield was 98% of theory, based on what was used p-nitrotoluene.
The distilled off solvent, which is recovered in an amount of over 95% could be reused after drying over calcium chloride.
Im folgenden werden noch zwei Vergleichsbeispiele angegeben. Two comparative examples are given below.
Analogously to Example 1, a solution of 27.4 g of p-nitrotoluene in 160 ml of dichloroethane was added 32 g of sulfur trioxide implemented.
In this case, however, was alternated with the addition of p-nitrotoluenes in dichloroethane the sulfur trioxide is not added in two stages, but added all at once.
The yield of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid (Na salt) was 97% of theory. The something the darker color of the product indicates certain impurities from by-products there.
