a lid for covering an air bag ( 14 ) attached to an air bag holding member ( 12 );
Attachment parts ( 24 ', 26 ', 36 ', 38 '; 64 ', 66 '), which stand vertically from the back of the lid so that they attach the lid to the airbag holding part ( 12 ), and which at least in a pair along are arranged by at least a pair of lateral edges of the lid;
first tear lines ( 32 ', 34 '; 60 ', 62 '), which are on the rear side of the lid in the direction of connecting the pair of attachment parts ( 32 ', 34 ', 36 ', 38 '; 64 ', 66 ') Extend with each other, wherein both ends of the first tear lines ( 32 ', 34 '; 60 ', 62 ') as far as the base ends of the attachment parts ( 24 ', 26 ', 36 ', 38 '; 64 ', 66 '), preferably on the central side or in the central area of the module cover ( 18 A; 44 A), rich, and
a second tear line ( 31 ′; 58 ′) is arranged on the back of the cover directly along the base ends of the pair of attachment parts ( 24 ′, 26 ′, 36 ′, 38 ′; 64 ′, 66 ′) and on the first tear lines ( 32 ', 34 '; 60 ', 62 ') adjacent.
5. module cover ( 44 A) of an airbag device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the airbag device is used for use in a driver's seat and the attachment parts ( 64 ', 66 ') on the back of the cover of the module cover ( 4 such position Although the tear lines 60 , 62 are formed along the attachment parts 64 , 66 for fastening and attaching the module cover 44 to the holder (not shown), they are a little distant from these attachment parts 64 , 66 .The tear lines are sometimes formed as a continuous or in a terminating groove, as shown in Fig. 11, along the part along which the tearing is to take place. The depth of the groove can be increased in a predetermined interval. Further, in a cover made of a two-layer laminate structure comprising a hard layer and a soft layer, a slit can be formed in the hard layer along the line along which the tearing should take place.
When a motor vehicle equipped with such an airbag device experiences a collision, the inflator (gas generator) is operated to expand the airbag. Then the module cover 44 is first torn open along the first tear line 58 , and the tearing continues along the second tear lines 60 , 62 , so that the module cover opens for the most part and the airbag expands into the vehicle interior.
As described above, in the existing airbag device according to the prior art, when the airbag is expanded, the first tear line is first torn open, and the tearing progressively propagates to the second tear line or the two second tear lines, so that finally the module cover is torn open on a large scale.
The first tear line and the second tear line intersect at their connecting part essentially perpendicular to each other. Because of this, there may be concern that the tearing which propagates along the first tear line continues to propagate as it ends the first tear line due to its inertia in the module cover in the vehicle or vehicle body side direction reached.
