Verfahren zur Herstellung von wasserabstoßenden, dichtenden oder zur Abwehr von Witterungseinflüssen, Bakterien, Schädlingen usw. dienenden Überzugsmassen oder Überzügen. Es wurde gefunden, daß man die bei der Petroleumreinigung in größten Mengen abfallenden, bislang kaum nennenswert technisch ausgenutzten Säureharze (Petroleumsulfosäuren enthaltend) mit besonderem Vorteil verwenden kann für die Herstellung wasserabstoßender, dichtender, wasserdichtmachender oder zur Abwehr von Witterungseinflüssen, Bakterien, Schädlingen usw. dienender Überzugsmassen tizw. Überzüge. Hierbei zeichnet sich dieses Produkt vor anderen ähnlich wirkenden Substanzen nicht nur durch die viel günstigere Preisstellung aus, sondern auch durch das besonders vorteilhafte Zusammenwirken von emulgierenden, klebenden, plastischen und flüssigkeitsabstoßenden Eigenschaften. So lassen sich mit Hilfe des erwähnten Produktes (und verschiedener Zusatzmaterialien) Stoffe, Schuhe, Papiere, Kartons, Papiersäcke, Kunstleder, Fässer, Böden, Möbel usw. mit einem wasserabstoßenden bis wasserdichten Überzug überziehen, der gegebenenfalls gefärbt sein kann, ohne daß die angewandten wasserlöslichen Farbstoffe beim Zusammentreffen des Überzuges mit wäßrigen Flüssigkeiten ausbluten. Beispiele r. Ein Mittel zur Herstellung eines wasserabstoßenden und wasserechten Überzuges (Schellackersatz) auf Papieren, Pappen, Möbeln usw. wird so hergestellt: 24.o Gewichtsteile Petrolsäureharz (viermal mit Wasser ausgekocht), 17 Gewichtsteile Atzkali und r.4o Gewichtsteile Wasser werden q. Stunden auf 9o° C gehalten. Hierzu kommen t8o Gewichtsteile Rohmontanwachs, i 8o Gewichtsteile Paraffin und 4.oo Gewichtsteile Wasser bei gleicher Temperatur.
