Description
Continuous extraction of sulfur. In the extraction of sulphurous masses, e.g. B. spent gas cleaning compounds or sulfur-laden active coal, by means of sulfur ammonium solutions, z. B. by the process of patents 370526 and additives 371 [16 and 372888], ammon polysulphide solutions are obtained from which the sulfur can be deposited by heating off the sulfur ammonium. In this process, a finely divided or granular sulfur is obtained, which is more or less contaminated by sulfur iron, is therefore greenish in color and must either be sucked off or centrifuged. Color, moisture content and texture make it unusable for many technical purposes for which lump sulfur is otherwise used. A product that can be used for such purposes is only obtained by remelting.
The present invention relates to a method in which in continuous Procedure the decomposition of the polysulphide solution is conducted so that you can directly melted sulfur is obtained, which after cooling becomes a very pure, high quality Product represents.
The method consists in making the polysulfide solution of a liquid in a closed cooking vessel under normal or elevated pressure is maintained at a temperature above the melting point of sulfur.
The procedure is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing: In a cooker A (Fig. I) is the aqueous solution of a salt of such Concentration that it boils at 115 'or above at atmospheric pressure, i.e. at a temperature which is above the melting point of sulfur (11q. °). The heating the contents of the cooker can be steamed with steam coils, steam jackets or the like. Or by gas, C51 or other firing.
At a, the ammonium polysulphide solution runs continuously into the boiling salt solution while simultaneously wet and sulfuric moon vapors distill over the be condensed in the cooler B and left at b as a pure sulfur ammonium solution. The sulfur separates in the boiling liquid in the form of small droplets from that unite. Molten sulfur collects at the bottom of the stove at where he drained from time to time at c be or by a corresponding overflow pipe can run continuously.
B. Natronsalpeter, Rhodanammonium, Seignettesalz u. a. angeführt. As salts suitable for increasing the temperature of the boiling water, which neither with the polysulfide solution nor with the admixtures contained in it, z. B. ammonium carbonate, react or give a precipitate, be z. B. sodium nitrate, Rhodanammonium, Seignette Salt and others cited.
An even greater number of salts are available if you use the Decomposition at higher pressures than atmospheric pressure can go on. Also can in this case work can be carried out without the addition of salts. One uses in these Cases as a cooker a pressure-resistant apparatus, which is in the outlet line for the over-distilling Solvent vapors contains a pressure relief valve similar to a safety valve, which automatically keeps the pressure in the cooker at such a level that the boiling temperature is brought above the melting point of sulfur. Of course, the ammonium polysulphide solution must be used the cooker under appropriate pressure. supplied «- earth.
Fig. 2 shows an apparatus suitable for this. A is the digester, B the cooler for the sulfur ammonium vapors, which is connected to a heat exchanger C. This is supposed to give off some of the heat released during the condensation of the solvent to the polysulphide solution which is decomposing and preheat it. The latter is continuously fed into the digester by the pump e (or a pressure vessel). The pressure relief valve d automatically regulates the pressure in the cooker. At c, the molten sulfur can be drained off from time to time or continuously. If one works at a sufficiently high overpressure, ie at about 1 to 1 x atmospheres or more, then the decomposition can take place without the addition of special salts, since the melting point of sulfur is exceeded.
The pressure relief valve only releases a pressure of up to half an atmosphere above atmospheric pressure, this has the advantage that you work with apparatus that do not fall under the Dampfffassgesetz and therefore not subject to revision are. The above-mentioned are then suitable for the preparation of the salt solution Salts also z. B. Ainmonsulfat, Ainononchlorid, table salt, etc., their solutions below show boiling points of about 10-5 to 10 ° under normal pressure. It was also found that you can also advantageously use those salts that are used in the desulfurization technical gases by means of active charcoal through the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide arise in the coal in the presence of ammonia and during the extraction into the Polysulfide solution get in, especially ammonium salts such as ammonium thiosulfate and thionates, ammonium sulfate and others. With the continuous decomposition of the polysulphide solution These ammonium salts accumulate in the cooker. By partially removing the saline solution and replacement with water from time to time can reduce the salt concentration and the Keep the boiling temperature within the desired limits. This is how you can do that too Gain ammonia again, which was previously due to excessive dilution of the decomposition remaining final solutions had to be lost.
The method described means a great simplification of the apparatus for the extraction of the sulfur as there are agitators, centrifuges, transmissions and Makes drive motors unnecessary, saves on operation, the losses of ammonium sulfur solution can be reduced to a minimum as a result of the continuous work, and there Finally there is also an economic exploitation of the heat content of the sulfur = ammond vapors and heating steam condensate permitted. One obtains a sulfur of very high purity, that of the commercially available American or Sicilian Lump sulfur is absolutely equivalent. It is easy to remove any impurities, such as iron sulfide, rust, dirt particles, etc., to be retained when the sulfur is drained or to collect separately.
