Description
Superheater for water vapor, gases and the like. The superheating of water vapor, Gases and the like can usually only run up to about 4.5'o = 'in pipes made of iron will. For overheating to higher temperatures one is on the application of so-called Cowper apparatus, but with which one can work in a cumbersome way can only work periodically. In order to be able to work continuously, one was previously relies on the use of refractory retorts, which are heated from the outside and through which vapors or gases to be superheated were sent. The chamotte ones existing retort walls but transferred due to the poor heat conduction of the Fireclay only partially absorbs the heat from the vapors or gases.
It has now been found that the material for such superheaters Iron oxides are eminently suitable. These are not only fireproof and at the same time far better Heat conductors as fireclay and other highly refractory materials, they can too melted in the electric furnace and turned into relatively thin-walled tubes, etc. be cast of great strength. Such superheaters can be used with advantage a wide variety of non-reducing gases and vapors, such as water vapor, Carbonic acid, sulphurous acid, nitrogen oxides, chlorine, bromine, air, oxygen, mercury vapor etc., bring to high temperatures. It is only necessary to ensure that the heating gases do not have a reducing effect, which is expedient by a slight excess of oxygen is achieved. Example. Thanks to an overheater, which consists of ribbed inside and outside, tubes produced by pouring the melt flow are made of ferric oxide and which is heated by burning lignite dust, water vapor is conducted and thus overheated to i zoo to 130o ° C. The so superheated water vapor is z. B. fed into a suitable generator in which water gas is continuously used can generate without the interposition of heating periods.
