Für die Überhitzung auf höhere Temperaturen ist man auf die Anwendung von sogenannten Cowper-Apparaten angewiesen, mit denen man aber in umständlicher Weise nur periodisch arbeiten kann. Um kontinuierlich arbeiten zu können, war man bisher auf die Verwendung feuerfester Retorten angewiesen, die von außen erhitzt und durch welche die zu überhitzenden Dämpfe oder Gase geschickt wurden. Die aus Schamotte bestehenden Retortenwände übertragen aber infolge der schlechten Wärmeleitung der Schamotte die Wärme nur zum Teil auf die Dämpfe oder Gase.Superheater for water vapor, gases and the like. Es ist lediglich Sorge zu tragen, daß die Heizgase nicht reduzierend wirken, was zweckmäßig durch einen geringen Sauerstoffüberscbuß erreicht wird. Beispiel.
