Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing an object by successively solidifying layers of the object by means of electromagnetic radiation.
Ein Beispiel für ein derartiges Verfahren ist das unter dem Namen "Stereografie" bekannte Herstellungsverfahren, wie es beispielsweise in dem Artikel von Hideo Kodama, "Automatic method for fabricating a three-dimensional plastic model with photo-hardening polymer", Rev. Sci. Instrum. An example of such a method is that under the Name "stereography" known manufacturing processes like it for example in the article by Hideo Kodama, "Automatic method for fabricating a three-dimensional plastic model with photo-hardening polymer ", Rev. Sci. Instrum. 52 (11), Nov. 1981, Pages 1770 to 1773. Here the object in a bath of liquid plastic material in layers by solidifying a layer on the surface of the Bath made; after a layer has solidified, it becomes Object lowered so that it is on the solidified layer form a new liquid layer of the plastic material can, in turn, according to the shape of the object is solidified, etc. However, this occurs in particular Problems on that setting a constant thickness of liquid layer is not guaranteed and also significant Can take time and that with certain shapes of the object, artificial support structures also consolidated to prevent deformation during manufacture.
To solve the first-mentioned problem it is from FR-A-2 659 971 known the liquid plastic material through a to replace soluble plastic film by radiation becomes insoluble, resulting in the non-irradiated after production Parts can be removed. However, this poses special requirements for the film.
To solve the second problem it is from EP-A-0250 121 known, after the solidification of a layer, the still liquid Parts of the plastic material through a carrier material, for example wax, to replace that later without affecting it of the object can be removed. This method however, is due to the additional removal process of the liquid material in every layer complex.
The object of the invention is a simple solution for both Creating problems.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a method Claim 1 solved.
The particular advantages of the method according to the invention are for example from step c) of claim 1: A layer with a precisely defined thickness from the molding material can be easily and quickly by stripping can be adjusted over the surface of the carrier material; furthermore, the molding material can still initially liquid state does not change its position because of it the surrounding carrier material is fixed. Cantilevered Areas of a layer used in conventional methods an attached prop would have to be supported, cannot sink here. Also initially unconnected areas a layer cannot move relative to each other, as would be the case with solidification in a bath.
Developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.
The invention is further illustrated by an embodiment described in connection with the figure in which the individual steps a) to d) shown in schematic form are.
In the figure, 1 denotes a base on which the object 4 is built up in the form of individual layers 2, 3 . Only two layers are shown for the sake of simplicity, although in practice a large number of such layers, each with a small thickness of approximately 0.05 mm to 0.5 mm, are used.
Areas 6, 7 of a molding material used for the production of the object are already formed in the layer 2 lying directly on the base 1 in the carrier material 5 in the manner described below, and the surface 8 of this layer 2 is in a manner also described below treated.
In the first step a) in the production of the subsequent second layer 3 , a thin layer 3 of ice serving as carrier material 10 is then applied in a known manner, for example by freezing water by means of a nozzle 9 moving over the surface 8 . The thickness of this layer essentially corresponds to the desired layer thickness for the molding material from which the object is formed. However, it is preferably slightly larger so that a surface treatment can be carried out in the manner described below. Instead of an ice layer, however, another carrier material, for example a plastic film or a wax, can also be used. It is essential, however, that the properties of the carrier material are selected so that it can be removed after the molding material has solidified, without the properties and shape of the molding material being significantly impaired. For example, the carrier material can have a lower melting or evaporation point than the solidified molding material.
In the second step b), the layer 3 is now removed at the points 12, 13 which correspond to regions of the object. This is done, for example, in that the ice layer 3 is melted or preferably evaporated by irradiating its surface 8 'with a light source, for example with the bundled light beam 11 shown , preferably a laser beam. For this purpose, the light beam can either be moved to the points 12, 13 by means of an automatic control, or the irradiation can take place through a mask which allows the light to pass through the points 12, 13 . The intensity and duration of the irradiation is chosen so that essentially the entire layer 3 is removed at the points 12, 13 and any areas 6, 7 of the molding material lying underneath are exposed, but are not liquefied or evaporated or changed in any other way.
In the next step c), the recesses formed at points 12, 13 are filled with a molding material 14 . Any material customary in stereography can be used as the molding material, for example a liquid, light-curable (polymerizable) plastic material or a plastic or metal in liquid, pasty or powder form that can be solidified in any way, for example also by electromagnetic radiation, heat or chemical action. The filling can be done in that, in the manner shown, a wiping element 15 with a flexible lip 16 'is painted over the surface 8 ', the excess material 8 'applied to the surface molding material 14 in the recesses 12, 13 and at the same time from the other areas of the surface 8 'wipes off, so that the surface of the molding material is flat and lies in one plane with the surface 8 '. However, it is also possible to fill the molding material into the recesses, for example by means of a syringe or a similar metering device or by lowering it in a bath of molding material and then wiping off the excess, etc.
In the subsequent step d), the molding material is solidified at points 12 and 13 . This can be done in the manner shown by irradiating the surface 8 'with radiation 17 which polymerizes or cures the plastic material used as the molding material. Depending on the nature of the molding material used, however, any other treatment which causes the molding material to solidify is also possible.
After this solidification, the surface 8 'can be treated, for example to achieve a precisely defined thickness of the layer 3 , to smooth the surface or to remove solidified residues of the molding material on the surface 8 ' between the areas 12, 13 . A mechanical surface treatment such as e.g. B. milling or a chemical treatment such. B. Etching. The next layer is then applied in the manner described above.
Once all layers of the object have solidified in the manner described, the carrier material must be removed. Due to the properties of the carrier material, this is possible without changing or damaging the object itself. When using ice as a carrier material, z. B. an increase in temperature to a value far below the softening temperature of the solidified molding material 14 to melt the ice. Melting is also possible with wax. When using a film, this can be removed, for example, by a suitable solvent which does not attack the molding material.
