Abstract

The system is used to prevent the emission of fuel from the fuel tank of a vehicle. The tank is made of plastics material and the fuel is surrounded by a gas-tight jacket. Adsorbent materials such as active carbon particles are attached to the side of the jacket facing the fuel tank and the space between the jacket and the fuel tank is purged by air drawn through by the engine. USE/ADVANTAGE - Emission-free fuel tank for vehicle has second skin outside inner skin tank which prevents the escape of fuel vapour emissions to the environment.

Description

The passage of fuel through the wall of the tank of a motor vehicle is relative low, but must be considered in view of the ver sharpened requirements can be reduced.

There are basically two types of fuel tanks: the sheet steel tank and the Plastic tank. In the steel sheet tank, it is the various welding points or Welds where fuel can leak. With careful execution however, the emission can be kept below 0.1 g for 24 hours. May depend on the material the sheet steel tank, however, does not easily shape an existing, irregular shape be adjusted space. The plastic tank can we the available space be adapted much easier and is also considerably cheaper. Night egg lig, however, is the higher fuel emission caused by the diffusion through the Tank wall is caused. An essential step in the right direction is the fluorine treatment of the inside of the tank that is used today in the manufacturing process is integrated. Even so, it will be difficult to anticipate the more stringent upgrades were to be met with regard to fuel emissions.

It is the object of the present invention, the fuel emission of the Push plastic tanks down to those of a good sheet steel tank. The on Gift was solved by an outer shell attached to the tank wall-facing side carries 0.5 to several mm large adsorber particles that the adsorb fuel diffusing through the tank wall and at the same time as Ab stand servants. This second "skin" is open to the outside at one end, at the other end is a thin line that sucks some air out of the on is finally fed to the engine. The diffusing through the tank wall Gasoline vapors are mostly extracted directly while driving, e.g. T. vorü adsorbed continuously. In the idle state, the fuel vapors are sent to the ad adsorbed. Desorption occurs when driving. Because of that There are only small amounts of adsorbers against quantities of escaping vapors - mostly less than 100 g - necessary. The choice of adsorber is important because, on the one hand, it is very volatile Components must be adsorbed, but on the other hand also slightly desorbed Need to become. Good desorption properties are the key to effectiveness  system. Suitable adsorbers are activated carbons with large micropores (20- 50 Å) or porous polymers with similar pore sizes. The latter are mostly up Base made of styrene and divinylbenzene. Adsorption - you could too speak of absorption - takes place in the voids between the polymer chains instead of. Various, relatively gas-tight films come in as the "second skin" for the tank Question that, as known to the person skilled in the art, is printed or sprayed with an adhesive and then sprinkled with adsorbers. Gastight foils are an example wise double-stretched polyester films or polyvinylidene fluoride films, but because the existing adsorber does not necessarily require very high gas tightness such. Materials that are suitable for injection molding or deep drawing are also suitable Have the process processed in a form adapted to the fuel tank. The Those skilled in the art have many options for a "second skin", so that the ones mentioned here are only to be considered as suggestions.
