Abstract

A socket (1) which receives the ball end of a hip joint prosthesis, is attached to the pelvis by screws which pass through holes (11,12,13) in the socket wall. The socket has a hemispherical outer surface whilst the inner surface is in the form of a frustum of a cone. At least one of the holes (11,12,13) for the fixing screws is elongated. The longitudinal axis of each elongated hole is inclined at an angle of about 30 deg to the radial plane, of the hemispherical outer surface, which passes through the elongated hole. When two such elongated holes are provided these are arranged symmetrically about a common radial plane. USE/ADVANTAGE - Socket for hip joint prosthesis. The elongated fixing holes provide a limited degree of positional adjustment.

Description

The invention relates to an acetabular cup with a essentially spherical outer surface and with openings for Inclusion of bone screws, at least one of which is designed as an elongated hole.

Acetabular cups of this type are, for example, in the DE-OS 33 31 191 and described in DE-OS 39 01 885. Such acetabular cups are not a screw-in socket nen trained, but they are in a hemisphere recess in the hip bone and pressed in this position anchored by bone screws that through openings in the pan from the inside in the angren screwed hip bones.

The openings for the passage of the bones screws have a circular cross section, it oblong holes are also known which are parallel to one another  Longitude of the acetabulum extend, so parallel to Line of intersection between the outer surface of the acetabulum and a vertical, radial cutting plane. This means that To some extent position corrections when inserting and possible when screwing in the bone screws.

It is an object of the invention to be acetabular cups known kind so that the position correction Improved door opening options and that increased security of anchorage through the Bone screws can be achieved.

This task is the beginning of an acetabular cup described type according to the invention solved in that the Longitudinal direction of the elongated hole opposite the cutting line a vertical radial plane and the surface (lengths degrees) the pan is arranged at an angle.

This oblique arrangement of the elongated holes enables one Correction of the position not only parallel to a length degree, but also across it, so that the surgeon too after screwing the bone screw into the bone correct the position of the pan in any way can. A significant advantage of using an oblique arranged elongated hole can also be seen in that the Bone screw in an already inserted acetabulum different areas of the adjacent bone can be screwed. The surgeon has the possibility ability to insert the bone screw into the bone area zen, in which a particularly good anchorage is guaranteed is. The surrounding bone of the acetabulum is named not suitable in all areas, a bone  screw in full length or really firmly anchored, such a possibility exists only in Partial areas of the surrounding bone. With this the Ope rateur greater freedom when screwing in the kno screws guaranteed.

For example, between the longitudinal direction of the Langlo ches and the longitude an angle of about 30 ° be closed.

It is particularly advantageous if two elongated holes are provided are seen that offset in the circumferential direction against each other are and mirror-symmetrical to one between them ordered longitude are arranged. This mirror symmetry trical arrangement allows use on both left as well as on the right side of the body without there would be necessary for different pan models.

The two elongated holes are preferably circumferential offset from each other by a maximum of 60 °, that means they con center on a relatively narrow area as well the bone surrounding the pan is only in a relatively large en optimal anchoring of the bones towards the angular range screws guaranteed.

There can be a circular hole between the two oblong holes arranged to accommodate another bone screw be, preferably the centers of the elongated holes and the circular hole substantially on the same Height.

A veran is usually used for this circular hole tapping screw with a spherical cap-shaped head chooses so that the anchoring screw is not only in exact radial direction can be screwed, but also deviating from this, this gives the surgeon the opportunity to choose the optimal screwing direction, this Characteristic together with the obliquely arranged oblong holes offers a particularly large variability of the anchoring. The openings mentioned are all in a rela tiv narrow angular range, which is essentially the same corresponds to the narrow angular range of the surrounding bone, that offers the best conditions for anchoring.

Es zeigen:The following description of preferred embodiments Men of the invention is used in connection with the drawing the detailed explanation. Show it:

Fig. 1 eine perspektivische Ansicht einer Hüft gelenkpfanne von der Unterseite her und Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an acetabular cup from the bottom and

Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 2-2 egg ner in the hip joint bone inserted th acetabular cup with plastic insert.

The acetabular cup 1 shown in the drawing has a substantially hemispherical outer surface 2 . The interior of the acetabular cup 1 is shaped like a truncated cone, with a circular cylindrical region 4 joining the truncated cone-shaped part 3 to the underside. In the transition from the frustoconical part 3 to the circular-cylindrical area 4 , a circumferential undercut 5 is arranged, which serves as a locking edge for an insert 6 inserted into the interior, which probably completely fills the frustoconical part 3 and the circular-cylindrical area 4 adjoining it and protrudes slightly downward from the hip joint socket 1 .

This insert 6 , which may be made of polyethylene, for example, in turn has a substantially semi-spherical bearing surface 7 for the joint head of a natural or artificial femur.

The acetabular cup 1 has at its highest point an internally threaded bore 8 which is freely accessible from the inside before the insert 6 snaps into the acetabular cup 1 , so that a tool can be screwed therein for insertion.

In the jacket 8 of the acetabular cup 1 there are three screw holes for receiving bone screws 10 , namely a first screw hole 11 with a circular cross section and symmetrically offset to the position of this screw hole 11 circumferentially offset on both sides by two elongated holes 12 and 13 . Both slots are net angeord that their longitudinal directions include an angle with a degree of longitude of the acetabular cup 1 , example, an angle of 30 °. “Longitude” is understood to mean the line of intersection of the outer surface 2 with a vertical radial plane of the acetabular cup.

Both slots 12 and 13 are arranged mirror-symmetrically to a degree of longitude that passes through the circular screw hole, that is, their inclination is opposite ( Fig. 1).

The three screw holes 11 , 12 and 13 are located approximately halfway up the acetabular cup 1 , and they converge from the inside outwards in such a way that the heads of the bone screws 10 are prevented from being fully inserted through the holes, but penetrate so far into the holes that they do not protrude inwards over the inner wall of the acetabular cup 1 . The heads are thus completely absorbed in the wall material of the acetabular cup 1 .

The circumferential slots 12 are offset from the circular screw hole 11 by a maximum of 30 °, so that all three holes 11 , 12 and 13 are arranged within a Winkelbe range of 60 °. When the acetabular cup is inserted correctly, it is possible to screw in the bones in an optimally narrow, optimally limited hip bone area ( Fig. 2).
