From DE-PS 39 02 807 is an adapter for connecting one Optical fiber end piece known to a light source, the a fixable first section and one opposite the first Has section axially displaceable second section. The second section is when the optical fiber is inserted axially shifted from a first to a second position and when the second position is reached, there is a security direction for starting the light source. In the second position will be the fiber optic end piece as well the second section locked. The purpose of this construction be is an incorrect operation, e.g. B. a medical Avoid laser device and above all ensure that e.g. B. the laser can not be operated even if there is no fiber optic end piece.
The present invention has for its object a Coupling device for coupling an optical fiber to create that particularly simple and easy to build handle is. This task is done with a coupling device of the type mentioned in that the outer sleeve a guide hole for receiving the protective tube points, the depth of which is chosen so that the protective tube over a large part of its length can be inserted into the outer sleeve is and the end of the optical fiber over a larger one Length released for assembly purposes and that the protective tube on has a groove in its end facing away from the light source, in which a latching device attached to the outer sleeve engages, and thereby the protective tube in an extended, the Coupling locked to the position serving the light source.
The coupling device according to the invention uses only a few and very simple parts and is therefore particularly inexpensive producible. The simple structure is also an easy one Handling guaranteed and it is z. B. also ensured that the coupling device is field-mountable. In the inserted The position of the optical waveguide is secured and at the same time for assembly purposes, e.g. B. removing the protection cover (coating) and easily accessible for separation. To This preparatory work is the protective tube from the pulled out pulled position and stands in one to Ankopp suitable extended position.
The invention further relates to a method for the coupling development of an optical fiber to a light source, which there is characterized in that the optical fiber in a Protection tube is introduced, which is longitudinally displaceable and lockable bar is arranged in an outer sleeve that the protective tube over inserted a larger part of its length into the outer sleeve is that in this assembly-serving condition, the end of the Optical fiber over a longer length for assembly purposes is released and that after completion of the assembly work Protective tube pulled out of the outer sleeve and locked in one fixed position is held.

In Fig. 1, a protective tube 1 is provided, which consists of plastic and has a bore 2 for receiving a coated optical fiber. The protective tube 1 is inserted over a larger part of its length (at least 70%) in a guide bore 4 of an outer sleeve 3 . This outer sleeve 3 has in its left part an inlet opening for the optical waveguide provided with an outer jacket, which has the shape of a U-shaped incision 5 . Furthermore, there are grooves 6 for receiving a cable tie, which serve to intercept the optical fiber cable. It is also possible to fix the optical cable 9 using a crimping method. For this purpose, the outer tube end 3 is to be designed in the form of a pin. Between the outer diameter and a crimp sleeve, not shown, z. B. tensile fibers of the optical cable clamped. A lying in the inserted state outside of half of the outer sleeve 3 groove 21 is used so that a Be dienungsperson the protective tube 1 , z. B. grasp with your fingernails and pull out of the outer tube 3 . Instead of an annular groove 21 other suitable handle-Einrich lines can be provided, for. B. an outer ring. At the front right end of the outer sleeve 3 locking lugs 8 are provided, which are designed so that they engage in corresponding groove-shaped Ver recesses 7 of the protective tube 1 and are held there by locking. Instead of the locking lugs, the outer sleeve 3 can be provided with a transverse bore, not shown, through which a tapered pin or basket pin is inserted, which then splinted the protective tube 1 with the outer sleeve 3 .
FIG. 2 shows how an end of an optical cable 9 is inserted into the cable receptacle 5 ( FIG. 1) and intercepted there via cable ties 10 . The optical waveguide 11, which is also provided with its coating (coating), is passed through the bore ( 2 in FIG. 1) of the protective tube 1 and, to a corresponding extent, also projects beyond this protective tube 1 . In this state, the assembly and preparation of the optical waveguide 11 should be carried out for its final use. This is done so that initially either mechanically or z. B. by solvent, the protective layer (coating) is removed from the optical fiber, so that - as shown, the front end of the optical fiber 11 is only present in the form of a bare optical fiber 12 . At a corresponding point, the cutting of the optical waveguide to the desired length is carried out via a device 13 known per se. The advantage of this is that the protective tube 1 guides the optical waveguide 11 in this state, mechanically holds and secures it and that the accessibility of the optical waveguide is, where necessary, namely in the area where the detachment of the protective layer or the separation from Optical fiber 12 is to take place is given. After the completion of this preparatory work as part of the assembly process, the protective tube 1 is pulled out of the outer sleeve 3 and brought into the position shown in Fig. 3 ge. Here, the ring-shaped latching device 8 is snapped into the corresponding ring groove 7 ( FIG. 1) of the protective tube 1 and thus holds it securely in place. A part, at least 10 to 30% of the total length of the protective tube 1 is still located within the bore 4 of the outer sleeve 3 and acts (because held here in the sliding seat) a sufficiently safe and accurate guidance of the protruding front part of the protective tube 1 . The protective tube 1 is inserted into the bore of a connection socket 20 in the sliding seat, a light source 18 , preferably a laser diode, being attached to the end of the connection socket 20 . The coupling device thus acts as a plug attached to the optical cable 9 , the socket in the present case being integrated into the holder for the light source 18 . The front end of the protective tube 1 abuts directly on the housing of the light source 18 , it also being possible for a known lens or the like to be built into the light source 18 . Between the end of the protective tube 1 and the end of the optical fiber 12 there is a small gap of approximately the order of 0.01 to 0.10 mm. This prevents damage to the front end of the bare optical fiber 12 . The light source 18 is integrated in a housing 17 , with a corresponding locking device 16 fixing the entire Koppelein direction in the operational state.
The protective tube 1 can of course also later, for. B. for cleaning purposes again in the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, whereby the front end of the optical fiber 12 is exposed again. The protective tube 1 is used to adequately fix the coated optical fiber 11 and in the inserted state ( FIGS. 1, 2) it only has to protrude so far that it is still sufficiently reachable, that is between about 5 and 10 mm.
In the finished state, that is to say shown in FIG. 3, the outer sleeve 3 and the protective tube 1 form a sufficiently strong common unit, the fiber spacing from the end face, that is to say the depth of the gap 15, being always exactly reproducible. The lateral alignment of the optical waveguide in the protective tube 1 is carried out by the coated optical waveguide 11 . If necessary, an additional fixation of the coated optical fiber 11 in the protective tube 1 can be done, for. B. drive through a crimping process or Klebever. For this, e.g. B. the radial bore 22 who uses the adhesive material in which come from the bore 4, the space is introduced.
